If the pyro knows what its doing the soldier wont see it coming or going, you sneak the soldier flame it then run, at theleast it will retreat, at the most you get a flame kill, you shouldnt be in a 1v1 situation on tf2 anyway, especialy as a hit and run class.

I figured it at least had a little to do with the TFC thing. I heard Pyro was a pretty bad class then, care to give a short list as to why Caff? I'm just curious really.

But yeah, I've learned to play Pyro well as my stats can attest to, hence why I wonder why people suck at it Big Grin.

In TFC

Flames have no range
Flames do little damage
No Jumping ability
No Stopping Power
Shitty secondary nade
Slow

Basically in the change from TFC to TF2, they upped the pyro's speed a bit, and gave a HUGE buff to attrition damage from flames and the range on the flamethrower. The Incendiary Cannon, while awesome, had NO stopping power at all, its only saving grace was being able to hit people through walls.

Getting killed by a pryo in TFC, was paramount to being killed with a crowbar by any other class, a scout could easily run away and any other class should be able to beat him in 1v1 combat.

I don't really play Pyro much, just because Heavy is almost always superior.  But still, I don't think I've ever killed as many people in as short as time with a Pyro.  Just because crit fire the most lethal thing ever and can kill an entire group in seconds if you catch them in close quarters.

But yeah, in general I consider playing against Pyros a favourable matchup 1v1, and usually come out on top, since every class save for Heavy gets a range advantage, and a Heavy should be able to drop them before they get a chance to do any real damage.

pfft, I can take out a Heavy 1v1 around half the time. Heavy turn to slow to take me out as I burninate :V.

If the pyros hit detection get fixed, and maybe a few tweaks it's going to be a very strong class... And I'm the guy that kills entire teams as pyro in maps as goldrush and dustbowl...

Pyro hit detection works fine (as fine as any other hit detection in the game at least), your range is just reduced when you are moving forward.

Personally i enjoy the pyro more than the heavy. Great for catching people off guard and disrupting the enemy team. I've seen entire teams run away from one lone pyro in those tunnels on warpath. Not to mention a defensive pyro is very useful, one for taking out spies, and two for just running around and taking out any enemy concentrating on taking out your allies sentry and who doesn't take time to notice you. Also on any map with more than one exit, especially 2fort, it's easy to watch people going into your base, quickly get behind them and take them all out before they can react. I got amazing killing sprees on 2fort just because of that. Pyro is a very rewarding class if you take the time to learn it.
