I had a funny thought last night, that Windows 7 doesn't really exist.

What you are actually Beta Testing is Vista Service Pack 2, its like those stupid Mojave commercials, except on a massive scale. I'm expecting steve ballmer to come out like some maniacal jester and laugh at everyone who said Vista sucks but has liked Windows 7.

While being at risk of repeating myself: this is the truth. W7 is Vista SP2 with some extra make up and optimised a bit...
[/quote]While that may be true, my money's on the fact that they're trying to get rid of the stigma now associated with the name Vista.

Re: Windows 7 - shoopfox - 01-21-2009

I'll probably dual-boot Win7 whenever Wedge gets his new computer and I get his old one. It seems like it'll have a lot more support than Vista does. And 64-bit XP is kinda buggy >_>

Re: Windows 7 - Luinbariel - 01-21-2009

I have noticed that when I unzip files into a folder, the folder that was created doesn't show up until I refresh; after an F5 they show up of course, but otherwise there's no auto refresh.

Anyone else who's trying windows 7 notice this?

I maintain that Vista is fine and most problems are related to SRS (Stupid User Syndrome) and trying to run it on shit comps Tongue  My only hate is that vista doesn't play nice with some old games.  But you can't expect things to work forever.

Re: Windows 7 - Squishy3 - 01-21-2009

well, you have to remember a lot of people buy prebuilt computers, etc. and those companies stick vista on machines that can't run it, so there's a lot of the problems right there

Re: Windows 7 - shoopfox - 01-22-2009

I heard a lot of ghetto modern laptops have issues with drivers if they came with Vista and you try to put XP on it. Is that true?

My hate for Vista comes from being horribly unoptimised... I don't want to have a gig of RAM just to run the OS... Also, I find the GUI very annoying but that has been a problem for me since windows existed.

For me windows 7 is better because it seems to play games a lot better, slow downs are a lot more rare than they were on my vista install. But then again, my Vista install was half a year old already and Vista bogged down a lot quicker than XP...

So yeah, the speed boost is nice and the dock imitation isn't bad but for the rest it's still windows and I still wouldn't do anything but game in it.

How much does OSX require, is there an equivalent version of OSX to compare to vista (ie: age wise), cause Id be pretty sure with all the bling and shit they put into OSX it probably has similar RAM requirements.

I dunno, but I usually boot into OSX when I am using just the web, IRC or doing music stuff because it feels faster.

OS X has been benchmarked as being quite a bit faster than vista, also OS X gets faster with every release because they optimise a lot every time.

This is of course not too fair as windows has so much backwards compatibility shit.

Also, about the older games... wine under linux plays older games better than vista does.

The new OSX is supposed to be mainly focused on speed.  I bet it's going to be wicked awesome.

Microsoft needs to do what Apple did with OSX and ditch a bunch of Backwards Compatible stuff they have to pander too.

Re: Windows 7 - KarthXLR - 01-22-2009

So, Apple will continue making furry-based names for their OS's, and Microsoft will keep trying to make a decent one for theirs. (I think they seriously stopped trying...Windows 7)

It isn't like Windows 95, 98, and 2000 were much more original.
