If I wanted to obliterate, I'd show the hypocrisy with their own words. This policy is not Trustworthy. It suggests that people can only depend on scouts if their personal beliefs are the same as the financial supporters of the national organization. This policy is not Loyal to the family, freinds, leaders, school, or nation if they happen to have teh gay. This policy is not Helpful, as it willfully does not care about some people. This policy is not Friendly. It is not a friend to all. It does not offer friendship to people of all races and nations, because it does not respect them even if their beliefs and customs are different from his own. This policy is not Courteous. It is not polite to everyone regardless of age or position. It's also not good manners, and does nothing to help marginalized groups get along. This policy is not Kind. It exercised force through exclusion, and is in no ways gentle. It does not treat others as the scout wants to be treated. Without good reason, it harms other living beings. This policy is not Obedient. This policy increasingly at odds with the laws of communities across the country that reject discrimination and exclusion. This policy is not Cheerful. It seeks to distance one person from another, and does little to make others happy. This policy is not Thrifty. It is alienating current, past, and future scouts, which threatens the future and goodwill of the entire organization for the narrowminded religious goals of the few. This is not a careful use of time and property. This policy is not Brave. The Phobia in homophobia is the opposite of brave. Look it up. This policy is not Clean. The highest standard is the golden rule, of which this policy does not abide. Also, some of my best gay friends are totally OCD about cleaning. This policy is not Reverent. It does not respect the beliefs of others.
That's a good punitive counseling.  I once wrote up an article 89 on my own First Sergeant that looked very similar.  God damn, that stirred some shit up, I got a call from a full bird and his CSM in my CHU at 11 o'clock that night, and things changed afterward.  Sometimes it's good to have balls the size and density of wrecking balls.  It's hard to motivate change from outside an organization.   Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Luinbariel - 07-21-2012 (07-20-2012, 10:01 PM)cbre88x link Wrote:
This.
This came off not quite how I meant I think. I don't want to seem standoffish, nothing like that. I just have not found something to which I wish to align myself with enough to actually claim alliegance. Not even my country. Not completely. I am notorious for sitting on the fence and will change a it suits me, because I choose to. I will accept no one thing if some other thing eventually fits it better. Politically, of course. I choose to align myself with HeK. That is the exception, barring some kind of irreconcilable difference which would fall under my prior category of something needing to fit better. Align yourself with the humanitarians and be done with it. That's something more noble than any flag, more powerful than any hate spewing hypocritical religious nut or militant blowhard, and more needed than any form of subsistence. (07-20-2012, 10:28 PM)Dr. Zaius link Wrote: I stopped saying the pledge by highschool. To get real here for just a second I gotta say: I still believe in this country. I still believe in what America was founded on, what makes us unique from the entire world. I still believe that every man, woman, and child have inalienable rights- the rights to a life of freedom and a chance happiness. We are far from perfect, that's a definite fact that I'm more than happy to admit. Hypocritical men and the greed they represent have flooded the government and have overflowed the white house, spewing sewage onto us. We feel as if we're entitled to more than any other country due to our success, and routinely turn a blind eye to the tragedy they suffer, as long as it doesn't effect us. Even then, even with all this bullshit, I still see a small light in the darkness. I still believe deeply in the people of this country. For every coward we have hiding in the political system like a rat in a drainpipe, we have one man standing tall and trying desperately to do the right thing, for the right reason, and for the right people. The day this country stops being great, the day I'll stop saying the pledge, is the day when that man stops trying. Until then, I'm in this for the long haul. /endtiredsleepdeprivedrantthatprobablymissedthepoint TLR; Hulkamania's runnin' wild, Brother. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Saxxy - 07-21-2012 cool we got a lot of eagle scouts in here It is damn near impossible to imagine what my life would have turned out like without the boy scouts, which makes it so painful to see people claiming to represent Scouting being such asshats. My late scoutmaster would have barked "Scouts! What is the fifth law!" at these jackasses, like he did to us so many times :p also i support whatever craziness merc just posted. Looks like its about... AMERICA. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Didzo - 07-21-2012 Luin, I don't think you came off as standoffish, at least not in context of you saying it. I feel similarly regarding ideologies, organizations (even if I am a member), groups, and so forth. I couldn't align myself with humanitarianism because it would amplify feelings of personal hypocrisy. @Merc: I started hearing the Hulk Hogan music before I even got to the tl;dr. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Reevesith - 07-21-2012 Woke up at 1 am hearing the pug wanting out, open my door but before I could do anything to get him out side, he hershey squirts all over the hallway, then walks into the kitchen which would of been a eazy clean if he pooed in there. Nope.avi he says & waddles back out & finish the job. half hour later of cleaning pug poo he locked in the kitchen with kiddie gates & I'm wide awake. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Luinbariel - 07-21-2012 I am not really looking for something to align myself with; I am mostly happy this way and will not trade my ways for a temporary sense of belonging. I'm reminded of when some friends and I were watching the first few episodes of Cosmos. Zack said "I don't have heroes, but if I did, Carl Sagan would be one of them". I found that I agreed with him. We valued ourselves enough that we didn't need templates to feel good about ourselves. There is something to be said for taking pride in one's accomplishments, though. You may have earned the Eagle badge. You can take pride in that achievement. You can remember how it feels to have a tangible reward or a touchstone for your values and ideals. You can state that "This is how it should be" or "This change is a bad thing". Your arguments will have greater weight because you know who you are without the need of support. You can stand on your own and have credentials to back it up, so don't abandon it when it needs you the most. Avoid sounding jaded, though. Like another one of my friends stated "I didn't leave the Republican party, The Republican party left me". I know I personally have dozens of heroes, both men and women I know personally, and people whose actions I trust and believe in with all my heart. It isn't so much of aligning yourself with a template in order to feel good in my eye, it's about life constantly reaffirming your belief in the inherent decency and well meaning of people.
