Supposedly yeah, UWSMPH really emphasizes life experience, and as such, their mean age of matriculants is around 24. Still, I am aware of someone else applying with identical stats as me (37 MCAT, 3.8-3.9 GPA), who was accepted, and is no more than one year older than me. Med apps really are a crapshoot. Good schools will find any reason to reject you. Lower schools will yield-protect you (reject or waitlist you because they think you'll go to a better school). Just...damnit.

EDIT: Still have an interview on Monday. It's regarded as one of the most stressful schools to interview at. Wish me luck.

"most stressful"? I wonder how the level of stress is measured for a school, # of challenging questions they ask you perhaps?

As for a backup plan, Teach for America? It's a great program with good intentions and I'm also thinking about applying for it. Downside is that it can get quite stressful, I've heard.

It's a panel interview, which means you are being interviewed by a committee and in the presence of several other applicants, rather than a traditional 1on1. Also hard-hitting questions.

Might work for Kaplan if I have to take a year off.

okay eightball i know you're asian and you have high expectations of yourself, but seriously, its med school

if the only thing that they can really criticize you own is experience and you have the time to get the experience and maybe even boost your gpa even further, its like waiting for that growth spurt so you can beat your mom/dad in height - it's totally gonna happen, but its not gonna be immediate


bad example, i know, but it really seems like all is cool, just a small bum note for now (y)

Yeah, but there are people with identical apps as me faring much better, even people with worse apps. It's confounding. Whatever, agonizing anymore is going to stress me more.

I'm not familiar with medical school applications, but unless you get into another acceptable school, you might need to take a year off before reapplying. That can happen a lot in some graduate programs.

It depends largely on the institution (some will ask what you've been doing in your time off), but to the best of my knowledge there aren't any restrictions against reapplying in a year. Some argue that it's not enough time to meaningfully improve your application, but on the other hand those MCAT scores don't stay good forever.

On the bright side, I have an interview at another med school in Milwaukee in November now.

I wouldn't be too disheartened about the silence from the other schools though, there's a huge range in how long schools take to get back to people. I think they do it on purpose just to stress ya'll :p

I was in a car accident on the way home from work today. It looks like very minor damage to my rear bumper, nothing medical apart from some stress strains on me and no citation for me, since I didn't hit anyone else. The other cars involved didn't look as hot, though. Lucky me to be in the very front of it all.

I saw one on route 7, yesterday.  The van in front was fine, but the car behind it was wedged under it.  Third car was dented.  Everyone looked fine, though.  It was a day for accidents, I guess.

Also, I remember the time I was in one, a few years ago.  Most terrifying day of my life.

Oh, it was not a joy ride at all. I was worried as hell about what would happen to my car, my insurance rate and myself during and after. My rates SHOULDN'T go up because I wasn't cited and all the other check marks the rep told me and the damage seems minimal, so I'm less much less worried about what happened. The worst part of it, looking back on it, was that the cute young lady driving the car that started the whole fiasco offered me her phone number so I could give her pictures of the accident I took, and I turned it down because my phone has issues sending picture messages :-X

I found out my so called "friend"/roommate with held information that he was dating the same girl I was, after we specifically agreed that we would not go for girls that we knew one of us had interest in(or in my case, feelings for).  I found out because I saw they had slept together.  I will talk to them both individually, and I doubt I will be able to stay friends with at least one of them.  FML

If you never told anyone, not his fault for not knowing.

Not to be crude in my reply, but discuss an open relationship amongst the three of you. Depending on what both you, your friend, and her all want, you could come up with a solution where everyone gets what they want. Though this also depends on you being cool with that.

He knew I was interested in her.  He knew I was dating her.  She would come over, I would not find out until she showed up, and he never thought that " Hey, maybe I should tell MY FRIEND that the person that he is going out with is coming over." We discussed this even before I asked her out.  And he even told me to my face that he told her he just wanted to be friends.  Trust, straight out the window.

Oh, and if we had turned it on my mother and I would probably have been killed by Carbon Monoxide, apparently.  For whatever reason that didn't scare me, and the fact that it didn't has now freaked me out.
