Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Gasman - 11-08-2012 The higher management at work has tightened some rules involving quality today. The percent of errors every employee in the department can make weekly before getting on the slow track to termination is going to be reduced. This sounds good in practice, except that the percent is incredibly low already and we're expected to put out a high volume of information every day. I'm currently sitting lower than the error rate, but with the new change I'll be just over it. If I work more slowly than I normally do, I'll likely stay under the new rate, but in addition to this upper management also expects everyone to work even harder and put out impossible numbers because of circumstances they caused, yet seemingly can't see the consequences of. Long story short, I may be out of a job in three to six months. Oh, and I have a cold. Doubt it. Middle management bullshit like this is good for lowering worker morale and kissing up to other morons and not much else. You should be fine so long as you are consistent in your work.
In a lot of other businesses, yes. However, where I work, there have been a number of terminations recently for employees not producing enough and making a couple too many errors for the past (part of the reason why the department is expected to work even harder). I should be ok just so long as I maintain my production goal and slow down enough to catch my mistakes, but I also fear for the entire department, who is currently sitting at a little over the current error rate. If they can't make it now, what will happen when they need to make even less? Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - A. If they raise the standards so much that most of the department doesn't meet them, what are they gonna do? Fire the department? Don't think so.
Ding ding, the company's been a fervent follower of six sigma for a while now. It's just that something set off management to cause them to do this now. No idea what. Didzo: I do hope that management has enough sense to not fire a lot of us in a short period of time. This won't be the end of the world if I'm fired, since the job was supposed to be a stepping stone for job experience and income. Maybe I should take this as a sign to start looking for a better job in a few months. Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - A. Whats your GPA and history like? Look into your school's policies about dropping the course, I believe Atom did this a few times in classes when he was trying to work something like 20 hours a week and do engineering stuff, was able to pull out with no credit and not have it mar the GPA or be put on probation.
Drop deadline was two weeks ago.  If I were to have dropped it, I would have had only 7 credits.  I was doing alright in the course.  My parents both agreed that if I failed a course they would make sure I get out of the school.  I am on academic probation as is with a GPA under 2.0.  right now, my cumulative GPA is a 1.94 Edit 1: Just got an email back from the Prof.  I cannot retake or get a second chance on the exam.  God Damnit.
