I am now beginning to experience con nightmares, hooray.
I found a company that does German WWII reproductions: http://www.hessenantique.com/Default.asp

(also, God lives in my laundry room)
Dat Ze Goggles, well done.

Just wait until it's done done tonight. I already have the black buttons, so I just need to set where I want the hem and blousing in the front then sew all of that shit on (and the patches) and it's done. It'll look pimp, plus I'm just tacking it back for the blousing so I can drop it again after to have a badass Evil Scientist coat that comes down near my ankles.

A small progress update from my end. I'm really slow at making props for some reason.

Looking good!

and Caffeine, I think I have the exact same Dremel tool.
What's the medpack made from? Mine is from pink insulation foam and it definitely beats my original cardboard first trial. It's so light though, I'm not sure if it'll hold up to con abuse.

Same foam, only white, I covered mine in a hard plastic

Makes a nice hard shell that will stand up to abuse Smile

Re: ACEN - Last Call - at0m - 05-16-2011

Medic costume is functionally complete. There are some bonus finishing touches I may end up doing (including getting some pictures with a decent camera during the day), but it's wearable at this point.

Items completed today:
- Got contact lenses so I'm not blind at the con.
- Finalize bottom hem length of coat (only really matters in the back).
- Determine proper 'swoop' angle for coat, sew back excess fabric (so it can be converted to an Evil Scientist coat sometime).
- Place, reinforce, and sew buttons to front of coat.
- Ironed on patches.
- Found 3" black elastic to use as a belt. Also bought snaps, but will probably just use safety pins so it's more adjustable.

Possible bonus items:
- Hand-sew patches to reinforce iron-on bond.
- Hand-sew snaps onto the belt instead of just safety-pinning it.
- Hand-sew elastic loops into sleeves to keep them inside the gloves at all times.
- Source some ammo boxes for the belt (with overnight shipping)
- Make a melee weapon (lolnotgonnahappen.gif).
- 'antique' the coat (get it dirty so there's more contrast between the clean white shirt and the dirty coat).

Item out of my control:
- Medigun & backpack (with straps) from Caff. <3.

Totally do these.

Sewing the patches might take an hour or half hour depending on how secure you want it. The patch is pretty thick so it will take supah finger manpower to push the needle through so many times.
Safety pins + cosplay = nightmarish problems    Been there, done that. Never again.

Edit: and oh noes, I was just informed that I will only be at acen on Friday...which is good in that I can be the ugly duckling walking with you group of REDs but bad that I will have to miss the Valve shoot.
I'd stay Sat + Sun (or maybe just Sat) if any of you kind people are willing to accept an extra roommate? I'll pay my share for the room of course. I was thinking that I could room for Fri and/or Sat night and just take the bus back to Madison from O'Hare.
