Re: Star Citizen - FlyingMongoose - 04-02-2015 Around the Verse Episode 38 (the real one): Around the Verse: Episode 38 Re: Star Citizen - FlyingMongoose - 04-04-2015 So while there's no new update today, I thought I'd post up something that has been confirmed multiple times, in news posts, videos from Chris Roberts himself, interviews and so on. There will be supported private servers. Yep, these will not be considered a breach of EULA, against the rules, etc. The development of Star Citizen will have private server software available. Question 1: "Isn't Star Citizen an MMO?" Answer 1: Kind of yes, kind of no, Star Citizen will have a single player campaign (Squadron 42) mission that will support drop in multiplayer cooperative play that is NOT part of the "Persistent Universe" (though your progress there could be stored in "the cloud" of the persistent universe. For example, if you complete all of Squadron 42 it's entirely possible that your completion rewards you with a free ship to be used in the "Persistent Universe" (the MMO-Side of things). You will NOT be required to complete Squadron 42 before jumping into the Persistent Universe, but it might help if you're a newcomer. Question 2: Persistent Universe? Answer 2: The Persistent Universe is the MMO side of Star Citizen, basically this is where the potentially thousands of other players will "reside", and where the largest multiplayer aspects will exist. This is the part most people are looking forward to. Question 3: Will Private Server stuff be translated to the Persistent Universe? Answer 3: No, basically because individuals can modify the private servers, fiddle with settings, give themselves ships, etc as administrators over them (useful for Corp training btw) it would create unfair advantages over those who do not have access to the resources of running their own servers, SO, private servers will be independent of the Persistent Universe. Question 4: Why are you so obsessed with this game? Answer 4: That game that we've all wanted since first seeing Star Wars, that universe we wanted to escape to (that we were able to do so when we first EXPERIENCED Star Wars, and many other Sci-Fi films), that's why. Go back and watch all of the 10 for the chairman, producers, artists, etc, and see how many thing are said an outright no to, in recent memory I can't think of anything, quite literally I've hear "is item x going to be in the game" and the closest thing to a no is "Well maybe not at first" the majority of the time. Primarily this has to do with diplomacy based mission systems (since this is more a star wars than a star trek). Also I owe Wing Commander my gaming namesake. Question 5: Why this instead of some mech game? Answer 5: I've never liked mech games, I've never had fun with them (and yeah I've played with plenty of friends in the past). I always felt the pacing was poor, and the intensity was not as engaging as space combat games. That's me, that's how I feel about this, I don't get excited about mech games because I don't enjoy them, any of them, and I've given them a chance... many a time, INCLUDING MWO, and I honestly can say the same reason for enjoying other MMO's over WoW. I just don't have fun there. I have way more fun in space. Second item: Tuning kits Apparently there's going to be tuning kits, for things like adjusting power consumptions, output, thrust, usage, etc for every component on a ship, this can create some really insane detail in the way you can customize your ship, and yeah you can swap out your thrusters, your engines, your power sources, your shields, your weapons, your missiles, your storage systems, and so on. Final recap: This game is called Star Citizen because each player can exist within it's universe as a citizen of that universe. Can you be a pirate? Yes Can you be a bounty hunter? Yes Can you be a smuggler? Yes Can you be in a military career? Yes Can you aid in humanitarian (or... alienatarian?) efforts? Yes Can you become a race-ship driver? Yes Can you just be a long hauler? Yes Can you be a ore miner? Yes Can you board an enemy ship and take it over? Yes Can you board a space station and take it over? Can you be a salvage operator? Yes Can you and your friends be individual operators in a specific ship? Yes Can you have frigate or even aircraft-carrier style large scale ships with smaller ships that your friends can pilot? Yes Is there a first person 0 gravity combat arena game with a tournament latter based on Ender's Game? There will be yes Is it a spreadsheet timer simulator? No Do you have to be only one of these things? No Can you be all of these things? Kinda yeah, though it'd be pretty hard keeping up pirating alongside a military career. Lastly, there's one thing, as indicated by Chris Roberts when asked; "Why do you think you have become so successful with the crowd funding where others have failed?" His respond: "Because we didn't stop.", basically implying that while many items did get successfully crowd funded many got lazy on keeping their community in the loop, interestingly enough some of the very first hires for Cloud Imperium Games (Primary dev company, though there are many branched dev companies with many names) were community managers, the additional designers, developers, etc came rather quickly after that. I understand the skepticism, and hell I have it too, but there's just way too much awesome to just write this off and ignore it... also... the Vanguard looks fucking awesome: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14623-Relentless-Predator-The-Aegis-Vanguard The pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-alpha is already better than MWO - FlyingMongoose - 04-09-2015 10 for the Chairman: 10 For the Chairman Episode 59 Meet the Devs - Episode 20: Thomas Hennessy Meet the Devs - Episode 20: Thomas Hennessy Around the Verse: Episode 39 Around the Verse: Episode 39 MULTIPLAYER SHIPS SOON (Are there multiplayer mechs yet?) - FlyingMongoose - 04-10-2015 Inside CIG: Foundry 42 Germany Inside CIG: Foundry 42 Germany |
