So, Apple will continue making furry-based names for their OS's, and Microsoft will keep trying to make a decent one for theirs. (I think they seriously stopped trying...Windows 7)

It isn't like Windows 95, 98, and 2000 were much more original.

At least you know what year it was made in.

My hate for Vista comes from being horribly unoptimised... I don't want to have a gig of RAM just to run the OS... Also, I find the GUI very annoying but that has been a problem for me since windows existed.

How much does OSX require, is there an equivalent version of OSX to compare to vista (ie: age wise), cause Id be pretty sure with all the bling and shit they put into OSX it probably has similar RAM requirements.
OS X has been benchmarked as being quite a bit faster than vista, also OS X gets faster with every release because they optimise a lot every time.

This is of course not too fair as windows has so much backwards compatibility shit.
Microsoft needs to do what Apple did with OSX and ditch a bunch of Backwards Compatible stuff they have to pander too.
Well, if MS would be smart they would ditch the entire backwards compatibility stuff in the next release and pump a lot of money in wine or something similar so that the backwards compatibility will still be there but in its own environment...

Yo dawg, I heard you like Windows so we put Windows in your Windows so you can operate your system while you operate your system.

Seriously though, that's actually a really good idea.  Too bad they'd never do it.

I think in the end, I just need to multiboot somehow with 98SE, XP, Vista and 7 Tongue

Re: Windows 7 - Surf314 - 01-26-2009

You know, fanboyism aside, this should be a very interesting round as it seems like each OS has an even playing field.  Vista helped make people aware of choices but now W7 seems to be the right OS at the right time.  Then you got the best releases of Linux and what is looking to be a great update to OSX.  Each providing a good desktop environment and each appealing to a niche.

Competition is a good thing!
