I really wish it didn't have the campest baddies ever. Seriously, Richard fucking O'Brien. Some of the cinematography is next-level though.
Is the new cut any better?
I've never seen the original, so I can't compare. But from looking at the differences on the Wikipedia page, I'd say the Director's cut is definitely better. And yeah, the villains were definitely camp. But I didn't really care. I'm quite forgiving of things like that if the rest of the movie is cool enough. Also, Kiefer Sutherland's diction was a bit annoying. And Jennifer Connelly was hot. Re: The Movie Thread - x - 03-23-2009 I wasn't even aware there was a new cut, might have to pick up the Bluray just to see some of the early scenes in HD. I'm thinking about going to see this this afternoon just for the hell of it. Ebert's four star review + every other critic's pan + Proyas = Intriguing. Re: The Movie Thread - Surf314 - 03-26-2009 I think Ebert has finally gone mad. Also Outsourced was better than I thought. My wife wanted me to watch it with her and I was preparing for a smarmy chick flick and it was actually a pretty good culture clash comedy. Also the indian holy day looks like a lot of fun. Re: The Movie Thread - fyre - 03-26-2009 I think I changed my mind. I just realized I still haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire. I think I'll see that instead. It's pretty good, right? Plotwise, sounds like predator without the aliens and the baiting teammates (Dillon bated Dutch into the jungle, remember). So some amalgamation of Predator, and Rambo, with such an allstar cast that I can't help but pop boners. Either someone has paid many people very large amounts of money, or the actors themselves have agreed to do it, simply because that amount of testosterone has never been on one film together. It could be fantastic, or it could fail very hard. I'm hoping for the former, because I'm popping boners (not gay!) just thinking about such an awesome movie.
