I tried to take a shot of gin once. I immediately threw up from the pinesol like taste. I've never touched it again.

It was Bluecoat gin. I got it because I wanted to try gin. The bottle and the name definitely didn't hurt either. I let a friend drink the rest and then I took the bottle.

That being said..I had some gin cocktails in Montreal this summer and I didn't like any of them. I did have a really awesome wine called Fuzion that I've been trying to find here in the States.

gin really isn't for shooting. It's mostly used for cocktails like G&T (delicious)

Gin has a cilantro taste to me, at least the Beefeater gin does. I like it a lot as it's kind of light and refreshing (and bizarre at first).
No idea why one has to be alcoholic to enjoy gin though. Opinions.

I associate scotch with alcoholics more. My friend told me that gin tastes like trees (real trees, not pot) before I had it. I agreed and always think of pine trees when I drink it. (makes sense because it's distilled from juniper berries.)
also, gin is not a drink that you want to go cheap on, at all. middle cost gin is good and satisfying though. I had banker's club gin once and it tasted like vodka. awful awful awful.
