Bump to ask if you've printed anything cool.
Also has anything like this happened and what would cause it? Misalignment?

MakerBots don't have rotary encoders, so it has no idea where the print head is after it leaves the end stops. In this case it appears to have jammed and lost steps along the way.

And the guy wasn't observing the build so he ended up with garbage

Yes.

Finally sorta finished building mine this weekend. It doesn't want to communicate when the 12v supply and RAMPS are connected, so I need to sort that out. Also, cabling almost all the things.

I've joined this club.  Bought a Rostock Max V2 kit and built it over the weekend.  I'm already printing decent prints.  Just switched from ABS to PLA and I must say printing on a heated bed without any sort of fuckery to get things to stick and then just popping it off and being ready to print again is amazing.  I think ABS might be better overall, but I have to dehydrate my ABS filament.  It seems it had a packaging defect that let in all the air and moisture.

So while researching a mechanical keyboard, I discovered that 3D printed keycaps are a thing. Some people apparently pay a whole lot of cash for some very impractical keys. Has anyone here tried to make custom keycaps with their printers?
