i disagree with your view on the sword. to be truly effective you have to use it with the shield, which replaces the stickies. sure you get health and speed, but you start with less health. Also, unless you use the shield the sword cannot crit which the bottle on the other hand crits a lot of the time.

of course I'm just going by the description so far so I have no clue how useful the sword is without the shield.

I'm thinking "Scottish Reserve," most likely a new scotch for him and possibly something similar to the Sandvich.  This is just my 2 ¢ of course.

There is also some talk in the Steam forums of Meet the Pyro releasing tonight.  I realize that place is about as reliable as a 4chan thread but it goes without saying that at least some of the information on their is worth a read, and truth IS stranger than fiction.

Now it begs to question, how will the two weapons fair against a level 3 sentry...
Plus, now we can have true highlander fights on fnf.

Given the explosive resistance of the Targe I suspect a demo with a single medic could take the blunt force of a lvl 3 for a good bit, as for how much damage could be dealt to the sentry with either of the unlocks remains to be seen.  I for one, am on pens and needles in anticipation for playing around with these things with the rest of the fine gentlemen on this forum.

I thought the same thing but unless nothing takes the primary slot having all three equipped would have him be 100% melee which I just can't see happening.

Yes. You are. Valve is using the updates to create sub-classes of sorts.

Yea from what I've heard it's to round out the classes in a way that makes them swap out their strengths and weaknesses. Like Demoman was a medium/long range character that was more cerebral and strategic and hard to use and now he can be a short range tank. Wide damage area before, narrow now. He was a good person to uber before and now he is again but for entirely different reasons.

True, but the game is perfectly balanced as is. Why does the demo need to be a melee tank, or even why do we need a melee tank period? That's not necessarily a niche that needs to be filled, and is likely pretty severely change the entire game.

They were reset 'cause people thought they weren't legit? Shit! I lost all mine too.

But I'm staying Demo.

Probably to offset the Pyro's insane close-range damage capability when used properly. No other class has the melee ability of a Pyro with airblast and the trusty sexy Axetinguisher when weilded properly, save for a fisting heavy, but it's not like he can catch anyone who doesn't want to melee.

Also; I cannot wait to start juggling Targe-charging demos all over the place.

What? You wanted to decapitate me? Well now you're in midair, on fire motherfucker! and My shit crits if I'm not runnin around like a moron! =D

Pretty sure that is the point.  Adding new classes without actually doing that, but instead through a new playstyle.  I think TF2 needs stuff like this.  Keeps it fresh and interesting.

i think demo had serious issues that could be solved with unlocks, and this doesnt help at all. itll be fun to run around being the highlander but its not good for serious play

Re: Demomen thread for non-American Drunks. [demos4ever] - Benito Mussolini - 12-15-2009

Who said the sword would be instead of the grenade launcher?

It would be a good melee replacement:

Eyelander
Pros
You get more health when you kill.
You get more speed when you kill.

Cons
No crit. (Unless you charge, see below)
You initially have less health. (Note: speed only goes up.)

The Chargin' Targe
Pros
+50% Fire resistance
+65% explosion resistance
Charges. Gives critical hits (with any melee weapon, from what I see). Better crits from further charges.
Speed boost with charges.

Cons
You lose winbombs.
You lose a backup weapon. You're stuck with a 4-ammo load, 20 max ammo weapon, and a melee weapon.
You lose winbombs.
You don't get any resistance from bullets nor melee attacks. (It's a stupid shield, yet it protects against fire and explosions...)
You lose winbombs.
You lose winbombs.
You lose winbombs.
You lose winbombs.
You lose winbombs.
