I've got a couple hacking augs so far, the first rank of dermal armor, the base cranial stealth aug, and maybe something else right now.
I figured I'd wait till a second playthrough to pick up the social aug, that way I'll won't be tempted to min/max conversations.

I've been saving my points until I need to do something I currently can't. So I picked up lots of hacking augs as I needed them, I got the social aug to help with random shit (I told this one guy to man up after he wanted me to go kill people for him and he just gave me what I wanted instead), I got the punch through walls aug because I got to a dead end in this one path and I had a feeling that I could break on through to the other side, and I got the lift heavy shit aug because heavy shit needed to be lifted.
BTW, the punching through walls aug is definitely worth it.

i have hacking basically maxed except for turrets/robots/datanode analyzing (sounds pretty worthless). it's just so goddamn useful. also lifting heavy stuff is useful. i've been thinking about saving up for the emp shielding aug, but we'll see if i actually go through with that :-X

I keep wanting to get invisibility and max it out but then I come across a situation that requires wall punching or heavy lifting and I blow all my points.

it's cool, but it isn't worth it until you have at least 3 batteries.

Hacking robots and turrets is definitely not worthless, trust me there. You get the EXP for the kills made, AND a room full of people who you can loot/don't know you're there.

My character is smooth operator infiltrator in that I don't kill and prefer to ghost an area rather than attack at all.
So in that light, I maxed out Stealth/cloaking stuff first. Very worth it in my eyes. Max cloak mixed with max batt regen means I can jump between cover like a sly motherfucker without anyone noticing, and then stopping right before a battery runs out, so it regens again (which is much better regen when fully upgraded, though not mindblowingly good. I wish the end level regen was that your first two batteries regen'd, would have been much better).
I can get through a whole area like that without using any batteries. I only use batteries for cloak when I need to get out of dodge or need to sneak past a wide open area with not much cover.
I love how widly different everyone's approaches are to their first augmentations they choose, and how equally bad ass they all make you out to be.

I try to "try" to ghost an area whenever I can, but a lot of the time I end up shooting em with either my tranq or silenced lazer-sighted pistol depending on how much I hate them.
There was this bit a near the end of the hub-2 end mission thing where there was this long corridor with a guard covering the only way in (could not find any other ways in) with a camera covering him and a guard in another room watching the hallway through a window. What I ended up doing was take down the guard in the room, then shot the wall near the other guard just out of range of the camera so when he walked over to it to check it out, I shot him with a dart and he collapsed out of view. I could just not figure out any possible way to ghost through that area.
...god I worded that awkwardly...

This game is hard for me to play because it's hard for me to make simple decisions when it comes to what augs i want....

Also, no one has been killed by me. I wonder if I'll be able to continue that.
