I had to reread it a couple times to understand what the hell arena mode actually is, but now that I think I've got it figured out it sounds awesome.

Not quite. If you get killed, you're dead, but if you survive past a certain time, a point opens for capture. If you cap it, you win. If you kill the other team, you win. So yeah, it is a lot like sudden death.

there is only one hole on Arena mode.

PYROS!, with no medikits or the possibility of only 1 Medic per Team, a BB pyro (or a FT Pyro which could make a decent damage) Will be insta kill... Only one fire Backstab would kill any not-heavy class, because of the fire damage

Yeah, seems like pyros will just dominate this mode, unless your team has some really good medics and engineers.  Still sounds fun though, and I wish they'd make more maps like lumberyard- it looks sweet.  Maybe they can expand it to a 5 point CP or a PL for next update.

So tomorrow is the long awaited secondary... does everyone really think it's a sandvich?  Any other guesses?

Lumberyard looks awesome, I wish they made a non arena mode map in that type of location.

Arena mode looks to be a pyro spam fest like Vongore said, but Valve knows what they're doing, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Who said you can only have 1 medic?

Also, despite the lack of health packs, I think pyros might be a lot less useful than people think. A lot of what makes a pyro great is having good ambush skills. With smaller maps, there's just not going to be as many chances for that, especially when people are more cautious because of the fact that you only have one life to give. We'll see how it goes though. I might have 2 be just arena for a week or so to get a feel for the game mode, see which if any maps are worth incorporating into the rotation.

I'm looking forward to Arena.  As long as the overall round timer isn't too long, and people play smarter since it's one-life-only, it should be enjoyably tense.  The indicator of whether it succeeded or not is the number of servers that may put "NO ARENA" in their names.

I also appreciate the new Alpine art style as it's very easy on the eyes.  Does this mean the palate of a map maker is now increased, or is it just a fancy skybox and some tundra?

The arena mode sounds to me like a Suppression match in COD4 or SOCOM. I like this..because people play differently when they know they won't respawn..me likey.

Tomorrow's going to be the shotgun replacement. The Sandvich, we mean.

IAWTC. I've never understood why people have such an aversion to sudden death as it is. Surely, it's really fun to switch up the playstyle.

I don't think you get one life in the Arena thing. You'll respawn as normal...but your team loses if you're ALL dead at the same time.

For me so far:

Good things:

- Bathwater basin: Seems like a cool PL map.
- cp_steel becoming stock: that's just awesome
- The new alpine style: I can't wait for pl/cp/ctf in it.

Meh:

- The heavy weapons: I barely play heavy and the weapons so far don't seem like they will make me play it more.

Dunno:

- The new game mode: I'm not sure about this, this could be a lot of fun or total fail... Time will tell...

All in all, not the best update but not the worst either... Still can't wait.

"Arena concentrates on the specific tactical choices the teams make in a single fight. The round ends once one team has no players left in the arena."  Sounds like sudden death to me.
