You can get something like 8000 XP just doing the training missions in game

requirements: medium assault (MA), anti-vehicle (AV)
highly recommended for general use: reinforced exosuit (REXO)
recommended: engineering

This is what I'm running around with 90% of the time, its my standard REXO gunner loadout

In terms of grunt loadouts, it completely depends on what's going on. I usually run with a sweeper and a thumper, like this (but with the plasma grenades dropped in favor of AP sweeper ammo, now)

My hacker character doesn't have AV, so usually she uses this as her gunner loadout (when I have MA certed):

Yes, that's a scorpion and an HSR. They're free because my character's old enough >_<

JFC.  Is there any downside to using that damn chaingun?  Guys seem to be just as mobile as me but take tons of hits and just mow you down.  Seems impossible to hold a base that TR just decides to go after.  Also, any solution for being an AA max versus a target that keeps pop shotting from around a building or  mountain?

The MCG is shit at extreme close range against a fast moving target, but that's pretty much it. At the range of most fights, it'll kill you before the bloom gets too large, unless you get the jump on the guy or manage to hit him with something to make his bloom jump. It's a bitch of a weapon to fight against, for sure, but all of the HA weapons are when the user is playing to the weapon's strengths Tongue

Against someone who's pop shotting, use your maneuverability. You've got jump jets, you can jump up onto the mountain or building and bring the fight to them. Also, getting up on high stuff will make your live loads easier as an AA max, just make sure you keep your head on a swivel or you'll get blindsided by reaver rocket fire.

Man, I hope PS Next keeps some of this stuff in mind.  Really kinda lame when one empire is amazing at taking and holding bases.  I don't think Vanu's mobility and speed really counts for much when the essential strategy in the game is to just keep them off long enough to get an AMS in and then send wave after wave of your own men (and women) to die until the enemy stops.

Vanu have always been HORRIBLY difficult to balance, NC vs TR is easy, one is high damage per shot but low rate of fire, the other is high rate of fire but low damage per shot. That's pretty easy to put on a graph and "balance" out.

But Vanu are supposed to be 'versatility', so you do you balance their Damage over Time with the other empires?

You think they're the red headed stepchild now, holy shit at launch, the beamer (pistol) was the biggest joke in the game and a huge humiliation kill. The Pulsar might as well have been a flash light, at anything more than point blank you tickled enemies to death.

The lasher did one thing well, hold a long hallway with a mass of people, the orbs were extremely slow and did crap for damage.

All of the MAXes were walking deathtraps and completely inferior to their counterparts for other empires, with the exception of the starfire.

The thresher had a tiny clip, and was god awful.


The Vanu had a few things going for them....
- Magmower
- Starfire


And that was it, you used common pool stuff for everything else because well, that was what was going to kill things. If you had higher level certs you looted other empire's equipment, its not uncommon for VS to have their lockers filled with Jackhammers and MCGs if they had heavy assasult.


They did buff the lasher, there was one week which we dubbed 'Lasher 2.0' where the thing was so god awful OP you would mow the shit out of both MCG and Jackhammer users. That was one of the few times the Vanu held every continent in the world, it was that ridiculous. The tears on the forums were some the the tastiest Ive ever had, and shortly there after it was renerfed and went back to sucking Sad

magmower waas great, when you didn't slow down after hitting infantry, yum.

Also, starfire launch, turn & lock was amazing. A pair of starfires standing/jumping back-to-back on a roof could hold a base against a squad of reavers. Good stuff.

Personally, I think a prowler column would be fun but I'll be playing from Germany most likely so I might not even be able to make it >_< Ducklings is more viable against a variety of targets than the prowler column though.

Ducklings sounds fun, but I prolly won't be there due to work.  I'll see if I can get it off.  Balance issues aside, the game is still damn fun when you're doing asshattery.
