Re: The official Anime quarantine thread! - Coelit - 11-08-2013

So I guess most of the fandom for AoT is fangirls. Made me feel awkward at a con I went to when I cosplayed Eren.

Hah, fuck that, you should be enjoying it. Upper tier of good cosplay, its like an 80-20 split girls to guys, and that's being generous.

BUT CAFF. HOW DOES INTO GRILLZ?

But honestly the ones who seemed cool were already in groups talking with other people. I have no idea how to appropriatly put myself into the convo with those types of scenarios.

Easy

>Overhear conversation, interject something at an appropriate point
>Ask about someone's costume after asking for a picture, ask for details, etc.

From there segway into other things, eventually ask for contact info (phone/FB/tumblr). If someone can talk about sewing in a technical manner, a convo is totally in the bag for me at least. Just keep things casual and treat anyone as a potential friend first and you're good to go.

How do you keep thinking of things to say? Conversations about a cosplay can only last so long right?

Re: The official Anime quarantine thread! - at0m - 11-08-2013

The trick is letting your brain wander and going with the flow of the conversation, as opposed to having things planned out. Treating everyone as a friend first is also a good plan, although when I was younger that tripped a LOT of gaydars.

You'd be surprised, say we both make our own things

>How long?
>Self taught or classes?
>What machine(s)?
>How many others have you made?
>What else have you made?
>What else did you bring?
>Compliments on craftsmanship
>Suggestions for improvement if they point out flaws

All of those can lead into other side conversations and keep things going, like if the brought other costumes, what did they bring, what series is it from, comments about said series (maybe its something you also like).

But generally at a con you'll get maybe 30-45 min of convo before someone's (or your) schedule catches up with them, ask what pannel(s) or events they are going to...maybe you're going the same direction, and again that's why you do later ask for maybe a number (hey, I'll shoot you a text later).

Tis a lot easier than you think.

Started Meganebu! and Kill la kill today.
Both good, Kill la kill more interesting to me plotwise.
