I learned that there seems to be a secondary surge protector in my PSU and that after a power surge my computer is not dead but I need to flip the hard power off and on :-\

[/quote]Has to do with active power supply design, the control circuitry runs off of the output of the PSU itself, but there's a 'bootstrap' circuit that powers the control circuitry when you first flip it on (or it recovers from a surge) so that it can regulate the incoming energy and start to power itself. It's a fun concept. I could also be completely wrong, it may just have a resettable fuse that needs power turned completely off to reset it after a surge, but who knows.
