i was having issues finding a good free, not shareware or trialware client for windows
fortunatately someoneAT0M pointed out that there was an xchat build that was freeware
i like mibbit, but i want something i can minimize to tray and get out of the way, and mibbit would make me type in the channel and find the server from the list. xchat saves all that for me which is convenient.

i just find the interface unintuitive
it took me forever to find out i couldn't log into multiple servers on launch without scripting (which is really stupid imo)
hell, it took me forever to figure out how to log on to multiple servers manually

i just aliased connecting to different servers, /gs for /server -m irc.gamesurge.net, /syn for synirc, etc.

Or if you've got peon access (voice), you can type '/chanserv inviteme #brbuninstalling' then join the channel.
The invite mask circumvents the ban mask.
