Reinstalling Windows, halp. - Luca Shoal - 06-15-2009

Long story short, asking for opinions on what to use and/or advice. I'm partitioning off like...20Gb for Windows itself on my HDD, the rest for general use programs. I've already got a partitioned drive for my games and such.

Any other advice would be nice too (ie, backing up program settings. I've got Rainmeter and ObjectDock running and wanna back that stuff up. That and Trillian are the two important ones still on C:\ )

XP since I'm guessing you are still using old(er) hardware relatively.

You don't have multiple hard drives?

Re: Reinstalling Windows, halp. - Luca Shoal - 06-15-2009

I do Caff :V. "I've already got a partitioned drive for games and such" ie, my other HDD, my D: and E: drives. E: is for music and pictures and that stuff, D: for programs. Any suggestions on how to partition my first HDD? Which is 120Gb.

And I'm getting the latest 'Windows Ultimate' version currently. 4Gb file is biiiiiig.

40g should be more than enough for windows + programs you can't be arsed to change the directory of, like firefox, office, etc.

this, but only if games are installed to an another drive/partition.

Although IMO I got sick of having to do that and just made my system partition large enough to use default install directories. It's a pain, esp in 64-bit Vista, because it'll generate 4 Program Files directories (two on your primary drive, two on your alternate) for x86 and x64 software :/

Re: Reinstalling Windows, halp. - Luca Shoal - 06-15-2009

I'd rather change install directories and have a quick smaller partition for the Windows install :V.

Re: Reinstalling Windows, halp. - Luca Shoal - 06-19-2009

Welp. My main reason for reinstalling was to see if I could make TF2 and L4D run right. And..it didn't do anything for em. Same problem as I've always had (though...it COULD be Nod32 is using to many resources, haven't checked that and will do so momentarily.) I pass the minimum and required specs for both (save for processor for L4D, which meets minimum specs)

Don't be a cockface Jew Blues and actually be useful for once :V.

Also. Yeah. It was Nod32. I had no idea it had a Firewall, totally serious.

Re: Reinstalling Windows, halp. - Luca Shoal - 06-20-2009

well it worked for one day. Then everything went back to how it's been. I tried to play tonight, and my ping was over 900 when I finally logged out. This was on server 1, 20 people, and I'd only been there three minutes at the most.

e - Caff suggested I call my ISP, which I will on Monday if I remember to.
