Dante's Inferno - Tragic Hero - 07-11-2009 Anyone else pissed about how this game turned out? I mean, I guess they couldn't keep the game exactly like the book (unless they made it a lucas arts/Sierra type adventure game) but I didn't expect god of war. Apparently in the early part of the game Dante fights death and gets his scythe and from there goes through the circles of hell and fights the demons there. Really? A book about observing the sins of others while Dante ponders about his own faults and sins turns into a fight against the hordes of hell? I guess I should over look this as typical EA trying to make money any way possible but it's just sad to see such a great piece of literature turned into such garbage. Whats next, a video game on 1984 where Winston Smith has to win a series of races in order to win his freedom from the thought police? Re: Dante's Inferno - Badgerman of DOOM - 07-12-2009 That, and he's rescuing Beatrice from Hell, when she's supposed to be in heaven. The entire game made me rage from the moment I heard about it. Re: Dante's Inferno - cbre88x - 07-12-2009 They are in two different ballparks. I'm not even worried. Besides, it looks so generic I probably will never play it. Gulliver's Travels is the new multi-realm MMORPG with epic 40-people raids in Brobdingnag against the more depraved ladies of the court. You think C'thun's belly from WOW was bad... Re: Dante's Inferno - Wedge - 07-12-2009 I never really understood whey people expected this to have more than a cursory relation to the source material. It's just EA's not so subtle attempt to try and grab some money from people that like stuff like DMC, God of War, etc etc. And that just happened to be an unused dark gloomy setting to use. I don't hear people throwing a hissyfit about some rageaholic with chain arms killing Greek Gods. Because that fits in with Greek mythology. Greek mythology is rather violent. Greek gods could be killed (but they'd come back to life). The gods used people as playthings. People rebel against the gods, etc. Dante's Divina Commedia is a spiritual journey, not a violent one. Re: Dante's Inferno - Blues - 07-12-2009 Because playing a game about pondering sins would have been a best fucking seller. QUICK TIME EVENT, TAP X TO BREAK PONDERING AND TAKE PISS BREAK BEFORE WETTING YOUR PANTS. TOO SLOW: GAME OVER! At least with greek mythology you could throw in your own story due to it being open ended. As much as I disliked the thought of some douche actually killing gods at least it isn't based on a set story to contradict the myth. Thats my point though. Some books shouldn't be made into games. Re: Dante's Inferno - Blues - 07-12-2009 While I understand fanboyism, in situations like this where there was no possible way to make it good anyways, why bother being pissed. It just means you've got a larger group who might gain interest and go read the book. Re: Dante's Inferno - Badgerman of DOOM - 07-12-2009 Perhaps it would have been better as a Silent Hill type thing, a la the remake for Wii. Instead of attacking monsters, you need to evade them.
