Smile
nah i have been thinking about getting one just in case, cause i actually was working on stuff when the power went out. nothing that i was too far into, but it would have sucked
but anyway it would be something that i would be interested in getting for a new rig (could give a shit about this pile)

Re: Uninteruptable Power Supply - HeK - 07-14-2009

I like APCs UPS'. Make sure you purchase one properly sized for your application.
http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/

The biggest drawback of a lead-acid UPS is that even if you don't use it much, they die after 4-5 years.
I personally use a diesel UPS, but not at home.

We have two, each the size of a train-car, and enough fuel to run off-grid for weeks.

[/quote]Not indoors, it's called a Backup Generator. If you need high-availability even in case of main grid power failure (or at least controlled shutdown) you'd have a massive battery + a generator. The battery keeps everything on while the generator starts up, then the generator can power everything as long as it has fuel (days/weeks).

Protip: he said he doesn't use it at home, and he works for  defense contractor.

Ours idle non-stop, unless they are down for maintenance.

The worst part is that they are built into the building from day-one, the two building wings are only there to hide them. Take that HR Tongue

I second APC. Used them on tons of installs and never had a problem.
