How did you find BRB'U? - Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - 09-27-2009

I was just talking to Versus about this and started to wonder how everyone came to be here. I think it's the same for a lot of us (via Dtoid) but even then theirs a story behind even that, and one we'd love to hear Smile

I'll start:

I joined Dtoid at the start of '08 , (Funny story, at first the only reason I joined was so I could ask questions on Retroforcego!, so I really owe my membership here to Chad Concelmo XP) which is a story in it of it itself, but really only tangentially related. Back on track, around April or so I started playing more stuff on Steam (I hadn't touched the Orange Box since I first got it in '07) and joined the Dtoid steam group (for some reason i hadn't realized Dtoid had one until then >.<,) adding everyone I knew, In doing so I started talking to Caff and Ain, who explained what BRB'U was, and encouraged me (the former of the two very strongly encouraged me, a sensation that any one who has been recruited to Planetside knows well Wink) to join and come out and play with you all. I was (as always) hesitant to try something new, but after much coercion, I eventually came out to play, and found myself utterly in love with the community (Iirc we did Pyro Hadouken fights and I got my career as medic buddy started) and the game (which I hadn't played in ages,) and the rest is history :3

You next?

Followed Riosan on the BRB,U TF2 server. Joined the forum to get into TFT.

That's pretty much it.

found the server and came to the site looking for more gay porn sprays oh wait---

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - Wyrmidon - 09-27-2009

I found brbu through Dtoid which I wasn't that interested in until I heard retroforcego! while looking for retro games I should try.  After that I joined Dtoid and lurked a bit, and posted once in a while. Then I got TF2 after playing it on my friends PS3 (lol) and got it on TF2. I was interested about where the Dtoider's were playing and found the TF2 thread. People had mentioned brbu and I decided I would try playing on the servers. Then I joined the forums to get a reserved slot and play FNF.

And now, I lurk the brbu forums (well not lurk so much anymore).

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - Professor Funbucks - 09-27-2009

Nitrous never shut up about you guys at school two years ago.
I joined as Nummy Milk, stopped playing TF2 shortly afterwards, and now I'm back as Funbucks because it's a better name.

Also, god damn my initial intro was bomb.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - KarthXLR - 09-27-2009

I followed Riosan into the Destructoid server and got addicted to all the older folks here. [about five minutes after posting this, I realized how dirty that sounded] Then, about two weeks later I saw the destructoid server had been renamed, "BRB, Uninstalling Server #1" and I thought WTF. About a week or two after that I joined the forums.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - backfire - 09-27-2009

It was just some random server I joined back when I was home(server)less. Lil foggy, but I think I became friends with vongore and kept following him back here. I started becoming more social with members and eventually joined the forums.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - zaneyard - 09-27-2009

Once upon a time, Zaneyard owned. Well, that's always true, but this particular time he chose to own at this game called Eternal Silence.
I met a guy that went by the name of Vandam. We played find the loonie for a bit and then he told me to come here. So I did. ( <3 rummy)
Oh yeah, you guys convinced me to buy TF2 (which i had been eying up for a while, i had previously been into CS:S pretty hardcore)

Like many people, my initial ties to this community was through Dtoid.  (I originally ended up at Dtoid during the whole cashwhore site mask when it was mentioned on a podcast i listened to at the time.)  I already owned the orange box and had more or less been enjoying TF2, if at fairly intermittent times.  One day in... October I think it was, I saw one of the FNF posts that mentioned caff's destructoid server.  I kept coming back on Fridays, friend listed some folks, got to know the seed community, and one day, I don't remember if it was ScotttyG or caff, sent me a link to the forums, back before it was BRB'U, back before it was Kor's Sexy Voice,  back when it was scottygrayskull.whatever.com.  And here I am.

tf2.scottygrayskull.com was still a redirect to here the last time i checked...

[/quote]That's what it was.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, nothing quite beat the time I was messing around in my programming class and someone looked over my shoulder to see what I was doing and saw "Kor's Sexy Voice" as the board name, and then noticed the Big Boys subforum.  I got some weird looks from that kid for awhile.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - cbre88x - 09-27-2009

Dtoid in the old era of the FNF server. I was still fairly new to PC gaming at the time and decided to play in the Dtoid server and I kind of liked some of the people. So I kept coming back. Then the split happened and decided to side with the people I liked who weren't douchebags. This forum was formed and I joined. It's interesting how this place always changes..sometimes for the good..sometimes for the bad, but we all do our best not to lose the core values that brought this place together. Having fun. Sometimes we get douchebags or nubs who don't know any better, but it always ends up ok in the end I suppose.

And I also miss Vandam. Him and his NSFW sprays.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - Luinbariel - 09-27-2009

I followed HeK. He played for about a year, or at least several months, and I would always listen to him play with you guys. It sounded like a lot of fun, like you all had a good time together, and eventually HeK managed to convince me to play as well. I went straight to Brb.u and have loved it ever since.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - Versus - 09-27-2009

Preordered the Orange Box, played on goon servers for a few months until I followed George into the then-Destructoid TF2 server. I remember George and TD messing around as battle medics on mach2. I was a sniper and someone asked if I was hacking :V. After that, I don't really remember much beyond just playing here and joining the forums as soon as I found out about them.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - liquid108 - 09-27-2009

Back in the day, I was completely obsessed with becoming a "god sniper." I pretty much always chose to be a sniper in any game I played. However, in tf2 the sniping felt different, more satisfying, due to the fact that all snipers have the same gear. No awp or autosnipe basically, just all standard issue boltaction rifle. So when sniping its all about you vs the opponet. But back to brb, I was just roaming around and came across the brb servers. My first game was with ZoSo who was the first real sniper threat i had ever had (due to 2fort sniping for forever omg). With other snipers like cbre and Joel on the server, I had good competition to improve. But what grew on me more was the sense of community that the server brought along with it. So that was really the reason why i stayed.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - Neonie - 09-27-2009

I was but a boy in Tokyo when a man in a swine mask that looked slightly crooked and profaine propositioned me and told me he would show me the way of the swine. In doing so we went on many adventures following a kid in a baseball hat a stripped t-shirt. Eventually we fought a monsters whos attack we could not comprehend but when we finally beat him OVER 9000 BASEBALLS popped out and bonked us on the head, leaving us unconscious to wake up with amnesia so we had to save all of our friends. I was quite pissed when the swine man told me I would have to play a game and beat all of the sound to restore my memories.

This happen THREE more times, with me becoming a little less cold each time until we met a little pink puffball who knew how to suck..and blow. He lead us to ganon who we had to defeat with the master golden pistol and save the world but at the same time discovering friendship...princess. We saved the princess and and then were in a dark room with a candle to the right and only one exit to the south, and one exit to the north. One exit was shiny and clearly sterile, the other was green and rotting, yet looked friendly and inviting.

Together with swine man, we went threw both exits.. multiple times... untill we came.

Re: How did you find BRB'U? - Duck, Duck, Goose - 09-27-2009

I do believe I followed Blues here from some random server. Stayed because of good ping and not shitty rotation.
