Don't break a game by exploiting a map Plz - Surf314 - 08-07-2008

There isn't much of an official stance on this but it has come up and people have been booted for it.  There are plenty of maps and game modes (like melee only) where people have found glitches and things that were not intended but give you an advantage and can break the map.

We've talked about it on IRC and the unofficial feeling was that this basically falls under the no-asshat rule.  So if you have been kicked for this previously or get warned about it in the future this is why.  It may be funny, it may help you play better but if it is something not intentional in the map or play mode you may get kicked/banned and you will probably get warned.

Examples:
-firing into or out of the gates during set up time (Well doesn't count as train hopping is probably intentional)
-setting up teleporters that trap your teammates
-Excessive use of civilians or crabspies during a time where people are not just screwing around
-Excessive spawn camping using map glitches (like in DB stage 1, spamming grenades into the spawn in a manner that causes large amounts of spawn kills)
-using weapons that you aren't supposed to be able to use
-Excessively and effectively using a gap or glitch in an invisible wall

Just think about this if you find/use a glitch or something that seems unintentional to the map.  Is it being effective?  If so am I getting an unfair advantage?  Am I causing the map to be played in a way that is unintended?  Am I legitimately causing aggravation in my team or the other?  And especially: Am I causing people to ragequit?

If you are good you should be able to win by playing fair.

Agreed, you might also want to add excessive rocking of the vote to the list. You lose a significant number of players when you switch really frequently After a couple rounds it's fine, but I've been noticing people voting barely a minute after the map loaded,.

I say train hopping is legit.

I said train hopping was legit....if it wasn't there would be an invisible wall.  Using gaps or glitches in invisible walls is more along the lines of what I'm talking about.

My god, like the tiny little cracks between some groups of boxes on goldrush.  Makes snipers so fucking annoying.

To be fair, the viewing window through those is so friggin tiny you have to be a really good sniper to use them.

But +1 for this, falls under the don't be a dick-bag rule that we were founded on.

That also seems intentional, you have a very limited line of sight and are pretty oblivious to spies, or another sniper could take you out.

*edit caff posted before I could hit the button but screw it I'm hitting it anyway.

I very much agree. I admit I get a bit overly pissed with Tele greifing, which is something I have -ZERO- tolerance for, becuase it's not funny, it's not cute, and all it does is piss people off and make people rage quit becuase their teammates are being total ass holes. If you don't like the map, either RTV, get over it, or go play on another server for a few minutes/half an hour or so.

As for yesterday when it was morning and we we're on Dustbowl I would like to apologize to Geoff and crew, they we're screwing around with civi heavies and crab spys and I kinda when uber Pyro and burned them all  Tongue

Don't worry baby, whatever you want.

I agree.  But speaking of well, we should probably make a no Train jumping with scouts rule since only RED can do it.

....it's a scout.

Shouldn't be too hard to kill.

What dave said Tongue  Especially if said scout happens to get a run of crit pistol or murders the medic.

Geoff, I say it's pretty fair to use cracks between boxes.

You're just being a bitch. Tongue

Re: Don't break a game by exploiting a map Plz - Surf314 - 08-07-2008

This isn't really about whining about petty things, this is just a warning that admins are going to stop tolerating glaring abuses of glitches and other things that make the game less fun for everyone.

Re: Don't break a game by exploiting a map Plz - Sponson - 08-07-2008

I fucking hate tele-abusers. God I hate getting stuck.

Also boot those that build their teleporter like 5 feet away. USELESS.

Re: Don't break a game by exploiting a map Plz - chronomaster - 08-07-2008

So I'm not sure if this works anymore if at all since I can't even do the first part, but running taunt on a Pyro's Hadouken is abuse am I correct?

There's nothing actually wrong with that.  Now teleporters that go backwards, those are awesome.

Actually, I will build useless teleporters plenty of times to block or slow down spies or uber-pyros from getting up stairs quickly, or as buffer to catch poorly aimed rockets or grenades around a sentry or dispenser setup. Commonly on goldrush, dbowl, or 2fort. I don't think that is either abuse or exploiting.
