Computer repeatedly crashing/restarting/powering off when I'm away. - KarthXLR - 10-21-2009 Ok, so a day or two ago, I noticed that my computer had restarted without my permission (Most likely a windows forced restart, I'd bet.), but it seems that every time I've left my computer, asleep or not, for a few hours, it either crashes or restarts. I know this, because a window will pop up every time I log saying, "Windows has recovered from an unexpected error" or something like that. Is this a problem with the computer? Do I have a virus? I really have no idea what to do. Here are my specs if they are needed: Windows Vista 32-bit 1.6 GHz Core Duo 4 GB DDR2 RAM Nvidia 9800 GT 220 GB HD Re: Computer repeatedly crashing/restarting/powering off when I'm away. - HeK - 10-21-2009 Your computer is blue screening, but you don't see it because of Microsoft's 'changes'. Turn off automatic restarts: Right-click on My Computer and select properties (or press Windows+Pause, Click on Advanced System Settings). Click 'Settings' under 'Startup and Recovery'. Uncheck 'Automatically Reset', and reboot. Re: Computer repeatedly crashing/restarting/powering off when I'm away. - HeK - 10-21-2009 I completely forgot to say why disabling automatic restarts is helpful. A BSOD actually contains useful information, and it's very hard to read when the system restarts. I've found the original MemTest86 to have problems with some chipset USB controllers, like the Intel P43.
