DJ Hero? - ThunderStain - 10-27-2009

Anybody plan on getting this? I really want to but cash is a bit tight so I want to know if its worth the 120 bones.

Re: DJ Hero? - Squishy3 - 10-27-2009

I tried it at Best Buy and it was fun, the mashups are really good, at least I think so. They work well and everything. I didn't bother with the tutorial in the store because I just wanted to try it, but I figured out most of it right away. Ypou have your standard notes where you just press the button, then you have your scratching notes where you hold the button down and scratch the record, and then you have the cross-fader which you have to change it according to where some of the lines go, that's the only feature that I really don't get. I don't understand how you gain Euphoria. (star power basically) I'd get it from Gamefly but uh, obviously it wouldn't be any fun without the controller. Like I said, if you go to Best Buy you can try it.

It looks really interesting, and I would love to try it out at Best Buy sometime, but I know I won't really like the soundtrack and I've spent way too much on Rock Band stuff to think about getting another expensive proprietary controller.

The soundtrack is good. At first you don't think it will be, when I played it I think the soundtracks flowed really well with the gameplay.

All the previews I've seen were "woah they didn't go the mainstream hip hop route but got actual good DJs in" so when I get a console I might get it. Wow, a music game with music I might actually like that's not called "Audiosurf". THAT'S UNPOSSIBLE!

Re: DJ Hero? - Maxon - 10-27-2009

As someone who doesn't like the music, I gave the turntable a try, but with a quick try at medium and sucking, I didn't realize that the two parts can be flipped.  Cause how it's normally played, it's like playing a GH guitar backwards I think, pushing buttons with your right hand and using the switch with the left.  I was told it could be flipped, which would make it more like a flat GH guitar.  I wouldn't mind giving it another try, but just for the challenge mostly since I'm an Expert guitar hero player and a Hard drum player, to be humbled by the turntable, only play on medium, is tough lol

As for the turntable itself, the disk is really smooth...like surprisingly smooth and the buttons some pretty reasonable, but man scratching is kinda weird.  They did fail with the switcher, since it feels like cheep plastic and moves rather cheap and it was hard to tell where the switcher was located at.

I'm sure the renegade version is better made and more responsive.

Oh is that what the Renegade Version is?  A premium turntable?  I just thought it was some sort of special edition with more songs or something lol

Uhhh I hope that was a joke.  I have a demo unit of the game.  Only includes 5 songs, but still.  I've seen the "songlist" too

All the music is pretty much mainstream hiphop/rock(?!?!) music, with a few slices of electronica here or there.  Everything from Hollaback Girl, to Queen to FooFighters.  There's a few "scratch DJ" stuff in there but the majority of the songs themselves are popular rap/rock songs awkwardly mashed together.

I will say though that Queen sounds fucking incredible mashed up with Daft Punk, which is the tutorial song.
