Re: Best way to apply thermal grease - Surf314 - 12-01-2009 Wow this literally says to just put a grain of rice size dot in the middle and stick on the heat sink. http://www.arcticsilver.com/pdf/appinstruct/as5/Ins_as5_amd_quad_wcap.pdf Re: Best way to apply thermal grease - HeK - 12-01-2009 Make sure you clean both side VERY VERY well. Use lots of 99.9% alcohol and cotton swabs, replacing the swab often. I personally use the old-skool spread a grain of rice over using a blue razor blade... but thats just me. Re: Best way to apply thermal grease - Surf314 - 12-01-2009 Hmm time to buy alcohol and cotton swabs....and maybe a razor blade. EDIT: Yeah, War's video is pretty good. Anyone know how often it needs to be cleaned & replaced? I haven't replaced mine in six months or so. EDIT: Yeah, War's video is pretty good. I rarely if ever replace mine, depends on the quality of the paste, how well you applied it I'd go on an 'as needed' basis if you ever notice your CPU heat starting to spike Re: Best way to apply thermal grease - Surf314 - 12-04-2009 Thanks for the help guys but I just read that changing out the thermal grease from stock voids the warranty (as does using a non-stock cooler) so I am sticking with stock grease for now until I know everything works and there are no manufacturer defects. If I have problems in the future I'll use this thread and swap it out. All you need is just a card to get the stuff up (it's not like glue it'll come right off), then when laying down put a very small dot of the stuff on the CPU and evenly spread it out on top of the CPU. All done. |
