Connection Issues - Tricks - 12-11-2009 So, during this storm to end all storms this week, I anticipated losing cable/internet for a short period of time. True to form, my connection wasnât there on Wednesday morning with 35-50 mph winds coming through. The day after, my connection was still showing limited connectivity (100% packet loss pinging google, yahoo, etc). I called my cable internet tech support, and I watched them power down and cycle my modem while I cycled my router and restarted my computer. They said it was 100% online and functional. So now, they have me concerned that itâs actually my network card that is the issue. I just use my motherboardâs 1G connection port, and I have no idea why it would all of sudden crap out in the middle of a storm. I tried pinging 127.0.0.1 and still got 100% packet loss, which is most of the time indicative of network card issue. Any other input or tests I can run to be sure? My hands are shaking from TF2 withdrawal, I have to Kritz something soon or I donât know what will happen to me. Thoughts? Re: Connection Issues - CaffeinePowered - 12-11-2009 Do you have any other way of testing connectivity? I know the last two boards Ive bought have had 2 NICs with separate chipsets, or do you have a wireless card (built in or otherwise to test) A second PC would also help in this regard if one connected but the other didn't Re: Connection Issues - Tricks - 12-11-2009 (12-11-2009, 11:05 AM)Caffeine link Wrote: Do you have any other way of testing connectivity?
you can still run the xbox live connectivity test, it actually signs you out of live to perform it Re: Connection Issues - Tricks - 12-11-2009 (12-11-2009, 11:50 AM)zaneyard link Wrote:
One NIC, one chipset, no wireless card, no second PC. Re: Connection Issues - HeK - 12-11-2009 Are you using a router? From a command prompt (Start->Run->'cmd', [Enter],) try running 'ipconfig /all' and make sure you have a valid IP address set, hopefully by DHCP and with only one gateway. Free free to post the results if you can. From the same command prompt try a 'tracert google.com'. You may not receive a response from 127.0.0.1 if you are using the windows firewall, as the loopback address is a part of layer three of the TCP stack, while the firewall is a layer above it. Re: Connection Issues - HeK - 12-11-2009 or if you have a decent camera on your phone, take shots of your screen and upload em Re: Connection Issues - Tricks - 12-11-2009 Xbox live says "your NAT type is moderate", but it says the connection works. I put in the router CD, and it says the computer is unable to connect to the router (yes, it is plugged in). Every router will have a default IP you can sign into via a web browser Re: Connection Issues - Tricks - 12-11-2009 I just downloaded a call of duty demo on my xbox, so it's my NIC for sure, right? Router seems to be working, or I couldn't use the xbox. Re: Connection Issues - Tricks - 12-11-2009 Caff, it's a Belkin N1 Vision.
