Where's my flying cars? Thread - Surf314 - 12-15-2009

End of a decade, tell me what you thought we'd have by now and why it makes you sad panda.

Re: Where's my flying cars? Thread - Surf314 - 12-15-2009

For me it's flying cars. And affordable SSDs.

Colony on the moon, fuck you 1950s and 1960s America for getting my hopes up

More applications for BCI (Brain-Computer Interfacing). I know it exists, I know we can find uses for it, we just haven't seen anything neat yet. Other than people playing Space Invaders with their minds.

Actually, I'd agree with eightball Tongue  But to be fair they've come a long way Tongue  They've got people and animals controlling mechanical arms and shit now.  Not complicated ones, but it's a start and may help para/quadriplegics walk/interact again.  Let's see though....

TBH, I thought we'd have AIDS licked by now.

I never really speculated on it, but I think mechanical and computational augumentations would be sweet.
It's not like our race is going to evolve any more.

[/quote]Exactly what I was thinking

Re: Where's my flying cars? Thread - backfire - 12-15-2009

Oh exactly what I was thinking. I mean, it's almost 10 years past when The Jetsons takes place. We don't have flying cars, affordable robot maids, houses miles in the sky. I mean, I thought by this time we'd at least have a colony set up on either Mars or even the bloody moon. And at this point in time, even after knowing there's so many other suns and moons out there, we're still calling ours THE SUN or THE MOON. It's Sol and Luna for crying out loud. Oh yeah, and we still haven't found a good way of producing energy from a renewable energy source without having to set up hundreds of turbines across a huge landscape.

"The Future" was overhyped.

I'd like to see post-humanism taken to something more useful instead of just beauty modification.
