Best password utility - Surf314 - 12-15-2009

Need something for generating and storing passwords, now that hacking is more sophisticated I feel I can't rely on my current system anymore.

But to be honest, actually remembering what your passwords are is probably best, second best I would say would be to write them down, if someone manages to get inside your home and get a hold of that you have bigger problems

Ideally my passwords would be random combinations of letters and numbers with a way of retrieving them.

I just make up words at random.  Pretty difficult for anyone to guess them.

The way I used to do it was I had maybe half a dozen passwords and I'd use them based on how secure I thought the site was, as in I had one password for all the sites I didn't trust, one for all the ones I kinda trusted, one for the ones I trusted, etc.

The problem I have is almost all my sites I trust about the same  :-\

I'd go with the "write it down" option.  It's what I did with my steam pass until I memorized it.  17 characters alphanumeric upper/lower case with special characters Tongue

The problem there is one insecure site and all your stuff is compromised.

Like I said in my other post, if someone is _in your house_ getting that piece of paper, you have bigger problems  Tongue

Like....oh.....the fact that they could just steal your tower and oh, look at that nice password program right there for me to use that cataloged everything.

The biggest threat to any system, no matter how tough your security, is if someone has physical access to it
