If he wants to go with ATI that wouldn't be a bad build at all.
ATI are king of the high end rigs and price/performance until Nvidia get off their asses and finally shove the 300 series out the door. I totally would have gone Nvidia instead of the 5870 if they had something remotely comparable.
make sure you back up as far as ATI goes, i've never ever had driver problems Re: My New Awesomesauce Computer - Versus - 12-26-2009 i've had terrible driver issues with ATI, but the price:performance ratio is nice. Re: My New Awesomesauce Computer - Surf314 - 12-26-2009 We have similar computers except for some key differences (I went GeForce). Re: My New Awesomesauce Computer - WaR1761 - 12-28-2009 This helped me with my build... duno how experienced you are. Clickz here! Take your time and do cable management! When you get it done we need pics Re: My New Awesomesauce Computer - Didzo - 12-29-2009 (12-28-2009, 01:42 PM)WaR1761 link Wrote: This helped me with my build... duno how experienced you are. Clickz here! I am a total newb with no prior experience concerning building or even upgrading a computer. That said, I actually pretty much built the entire thing today.... I have every part installed except for the RAM, which hasn't arrived yet. Since I don't have the RAM, I'll have to boot up the beast from the case with everything plugged in already. As far as cable management goes, I think I did a good job. Everything looks nice and neat, and the side panels fit without too much trouble. I'll be sure to take and post pictures as soon as the RAM arrives.
Remember "I" means on.... I blew up my first power supply because I didn't know that. Re: My New Awesomesauce Computer - Didzo - 12-29-2009 How exactly did you manage to blow it up? ??? Re: My New Awesomesauce Computer - Neonie - 12-29-2009 (12-29-2009, 06:09 AM)Didzo link Wrote: How exactly did you manage to blow it up? I flicked the power switch to many times because I wasn't sure if it was on (it wouldn't turn on). My problem however wasn't the power supply, it was the "power on" cord fore the tower not being plugged into the mother board. So when I actually plugged that into the mother board, and it powered on, the PSU set fire, also partially frying my mother board but in a usable state (with some of the start up commands not functioning). Re: My New Awesomesauce Computer - Didzo - 12-30-2009 The beast is finally up and running. I have dubbed it HAL 9000. I will take pictures (eventually). |
