Problem with Video Card - cbre88x - 03-30-2010
Alright. Interesting problem is interesting.
When I startup my computer..I can see loading screens for my OS, but when the actual Windows login screen pops up I can't see it anymore. It's as if at startup my videocard isn't being recognized.
But I went into safe mode to see this is true..no..the computer recognizes my video card. The fan even runs during the login screen..so it isn't turning off. Theories?

Anyway you can update the BIOS on your motherboard or the card?
What about replacing the driver?
In safe mode windows usually loads a default driver that works with almost anything instead of the main driver for your card

I have the same issue with my card. I have to start my computer back up 2-3 times because the Window's log in goes black. It's some kind of issue with the latest ATI drivers. Rolling back to an older version helped me.

Catalyst 10.3 is out, maybe that might help (know's fuck all about ATI drivers excepting that they're programed by poorly trained monkeys)

I have an NVIDIA 8800 GT...
I went into safe mode to see if the video card was being atleast recognized by the motherboard..but yea..it is defaulting to my on board graphics through safe mode.

Go into safe mode. Uninstall all the 'video cards' and everything else from under the 'Display Adapters' of the device manager.
Reboot into normal windows, cancel out all new hardware wizards. Download and install newest driver from your vendor.
What version of Windows are you using, do you have an on-board/secondary/SLI videocard?

Unless you are using it to drive an additional monitor, disable your on-board video via bios/mobo jumper.
Every time I have seen your symptoms, it's from a conflict between the two video cards.

how would you do that? I've tried fooling around with some BIO's settings, but it def. didn't work.

Its a set of jumpers on your motherboard, not in the BIOS

problem solved. changed some settings in windows. windows was being a fuck in tandem with my motherboard.
