Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - Vlambo - 04-25-2010 So, I upgraded my computer from 2 GB of Ram to 6GB, and upgraded from 32bit Win7 to 64bit. So When I try to play TF2 last night, expecting my usual 80 FPS, I was dumbfounded by the fact that I'm getting 20 FPS out of Combat and <10 in combat. This is simply unacceptable. I've tried looking online for answers, but to no avail, so I ask ye great IT wizards of BRBu, What can I do to get my previous performance back? System Specs Nvidia 8800GT (Updated Drivers) 6GB of Ram (2 x 2Gb and 2 x 1GB) Intel E8400 Dual Core 3.0 GHz Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - KarthXLR - 04-25-2010 have you defragged tf2? Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - beep beep diglett - 04-25-2010 also, update drivers. im no jenyus but i think you might have 32 bit drivers Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - Vlambo - 04-25-2010 I did a clean reinstall of TF2 on Friday, and downloaded the newest 64-bit Nvidia Driver. I think I'll go back one release on the Video Card driver Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - BS1 - 04-25-2010 You may have a bad memory stick. Try running memtest over night, if you get any errors you know one of your memory sticks is bad. If so, you will need to test each stick one by one to find out which is bad. Also, why are you using 6GB (in an odd combination too) when your motherboard most likely only supports dual channel memory? Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - DragonEkarus - 04-25-2010 There's a chance (Don't ask me how to explain it, I can't) that it's using the 2 1GB sticks, or the 2 2GB sticks, or even just one of the sticks.. Can't remember.. but I think it's supposed to have something to do with the RAM being the wrong type for the motherboard Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - HeK - 04-25-2010 (04-25-2010, 06:10 PM)Ekarus Ryndren link Wrote: There's a chance (Don't ask me how to explain it, I can't) that it's using the 2 1GB sticks, or the 2 2GB sticks, or even just one of the sticks.. Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - [fr31ns]Karrde - 04-28-2010 Being that I have tons of experience fucking with my laptop video drivers, just because it's the latest driver, doesn't mean it's the best for your card. Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - SAVAGE-0 - 04-28-2010 also multicore rendering option? effed up my tf2 - though I forget what the actual issue it caused was... Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - Vlambo - 04-28-2010 yep, I fixed the problem. First, my CPU was overheating, so some new Thermal Paste fixed that, and I simply just went to 4GB of Ram. FPS is back to normal Re: Massive TF2 FPS Drop after upgrading Ram and Windows! - DragonEkarus - 04-28-2010 (04-25-2010, 09:45 PM)zaneyard link Wrote: all computer related questions should be addressed to HeK.Shh!
