computer wont display video on my monitor. - Ianki - 04-27-2010

Finally had enough money to buy a new monitor so i could use the desktop that my friend had given me, but it wont display anything (the new monitor works with me laptop, so it isn't the monitor).

Is there any diagnostics i could do to figure out if it's the video cards or the motherboard?  It has two video cards, neither of which will display information with both installed, or with each videocard isolated.

The harddrives doesn't have an OS on it, but at the very least it should be displaying the BIOS right?

After a year without a desktop, i'm at my witts end.

yep

how many beeps does it make when you turn it on  ?

now take the video card(s) out,

how many beeps does it make when you turn it on  ?

if 0 for either answer, check pc speaker connection

if pc speaker is connected and no beeps.. motherboard.

yeah the motherboard is blown.

No the hard part part of trying to find an outdated mother board that's compatible with the processor and has ddr memory instead of that fancy 2 or 3 shit.

or it's equivalent.

I'm terribly naive with hardware.

it has a Pentium on it.  it would suck if that's broken along with the motherboard.

i could buy a newer motherboard, but then i would need another processor and set of ram to go with it....

If Duck can't hook you up, I have my AGP/Socket 478/DDR mobo that I just upgraded from this past winter, I can throw my old ram in with it if you need some more, I've got 4x 256MB sticks in it right now, it's a P4 2.8GHz, so it's still decent....

If the CPU is a 533/800 FSB, it'll work.

If you have a spare like $100... do you wanna buy my old PC guts I just upgraded from?

2.8Ghz P4 Intel
4x256MB ram
ATi Radeon 1650XT AGP

as for a replacement motherboard/cpu,  how does this look in terms of power/economy?

my computer with all new components in it still does not work.

I'm thinking about giving up and just moving to a cave somewhere.
