CP_SAS, a custom map I've been working on for several months. - TBot Alpha - 08-16-2008

I've been working on a TF2 map on and off for some time now, and thought it would be a good idea to share what I've got so far. It was inspired by the first level of COD4, and as such is set on a similar cargo ship. RED are defending the ship, whilst BLU try to hijack it. The two ends of the ship will have a similar layout to the COD4 versions, however I'll be taking some creative liberties with the deck and lower areas.

That's what I've got so far. I know I shouldn't have put so much detail in already, but it helps me feel like I'm getting somewhere. Those screenshots are a bit out of date, but the HDR is being a pain at the moment so I'm trying to put off taking any more screenshots until I get that fixed. Oh, and ignore the purple stuff, that's supposed to be water, but I'm leaving the reflections until everything else is done.

Some comments would be appreciated, and I'll put up a link to the current version if anyone wants to have a look around it.

So... no-one cares? Sad

It's still early in the US...

Looks nice but:
  • The pink stuff hurts my eyes
  • Only one point?

When you feel it's ready I'm willing to put it on for a Euro FNF.

An ocean of purple drank?  Nice

Also try to switch up your crates a bit, it looks a bit boring now.

Well, first off I have faith that you would have the water looking proper upon "release" Big Grin .

What is the capture time on that single point?  I would think it would need a time comparable to Melee_Ringking's.  I haven't timed that one, but it has a long capture and slow decay time.  What's yours?

I see a lot of rocket/sticky-jumping to perches and Pyro corner ambushes... but I'm unsure about the level of apparent claustrophobia and pass-through spacing between some of those shipping containers.

Are there any "below deck" paths?  If not, are you planning any?

Oh, you also need to include a video screen which presents a short animated-gif clip of the anime Fate/stay night because it "ROCKS" and we should watch it, apparently.

Ah, thank you Ain, I'll try to post later in the day next time. I was bit worried for a moment there. Tongue

As for the claustrophobia, I could sort that out quite easily by shifting some of the containers around, though I'm not really sure what you're getting at there.

I was planning for this to be a 2-stage linear capture point map where each stage would include two CPs, with the first stage being a fight over the top deck, whilst the second stage would take place in the below deck areas. I was hoping to include a third stage where the ship would be tipped over on side slightly, but I gave up on that when I realised how tricky it would be to create. I wasn't going to tweak the capture time for the middle deck point just yet, but I suppose I could lengthen it.

Gongratulations, you're the first person who's seen those screenshots to mention what my friend was saying about anime. I don't know what he was talking about either.

All those crates as opposed to "actual" geometry are also going to be rough on optimization.  Looks like it might be small enough that it wouldn't matter, though.

i think it would be cool to lay some boards over the top of the crates so you could travel on top of them

Your map looks a lot like the default configuration of Halo 3's foundry map. Link

Mostly concerned about if there's any really narrow spaces where two opposing characters would prevent each other from going through it, and a little about the breathing room between the containers, but it's hard to tell from your screenshots if those would be problems, so a playtest is needed Big Grin .

Instant suck  :-X

Ill reserve any critiques until I play it, but if stuff looks purple make sure you toss down an env_cubemap

I can give you the map file for what I've done so far, if you'd like.

Looks like it would be uncomfortable to navigate, like a long maze. :x

Again, with the uncompressed png.  Fail for sucking at taking screenshots =X.

Cubemaps are your friend.

Once you've run around it for a while it's not that hard to get around.

And I'm going to at least sort out the cubemaps when the first stage can be played through properly.
