uh oh - Geoff - 07-22-2010

computer blue screened while playing tf2.  when it reset, it stayed at a black screen after the bios splash screen.  when i reset it again it would not move past the bios splash screen.

anyone have an idea?

Re: uh oh - Didzo - 07-22-2010

Take out the TF2 cartridge and blow on it.

You might also need to hit your computer a little before you press the power button again.

Re: uh oh - HeK - 07-22-2010

Use your OS disk, go into recovery console.
Check hard disk consistency.

If that fails, try an OS repair.

cant even get into boot menu.  goes straight from the gigabyte bios splash screen to a black screen with a little blinking underscore.

Re: uh oh - HeK - 07-22-2010

You may have to hammer F12 to get into the boot menu and pick 'boot from cd'.

Re: uh oh - zaneyard - 07-22-2010

yeah sounds like it's looking for a boot disk?

i tried, none of the keys to get into different boot options do nothing.

edit: wait, after a few tries it finally went to the boot menu.

lemme try a repair install and see what happens

edit 2:  i messed around for awhile and hit boot from cd with nothing in the disc drive.  with nothing in the drive, it then tried to boot from my hdd, successfully.  i restarted again once i got into windows and now it's booting normally.  i have no idea wtf is up.

Re: uh oh - zaneyard - 07-22-2010

sure you didn't have something plugged in like a flash drive that it was trying to boot from?

Re: uh oh - Didzo - 07-22-2010

Now that I think of it, this happened to me when I built my computer... minus the whole playing TF2 and bluescreen thing.

The problem was that I had forgotten to set one of my disk drives to "slave" and so it didn't know what to boot from.

So, in my highly professional opinion, I say that your problem is hardware related. Possibly due to mice nesting in the computer case and chewing on some of the wires.

Re: uh oh - Geoff - 07-22-2010

power went out, computer wont boot again.

if i try hitting the keys to get into boot menu then a few off colored pixels show up on the splash screen and blinnk.

Re: uh oh - Mission Difficult - 07-23-2010

Have you tried unplugging the power cord and letting it sit, then plugging it back in? I had a similar issue and that fixed it.

Re: uh oh - Ianki - 07-23-2010

does it not power up at all? is the motherboard being powered, if you open the case there should be an LED showing that power is flowing.

I had a power supply refuse to boot a system after it's fan stopped working.  Checking if fans are working and it's not a heat issue is a good step, providing power is going through at all.

You can also return bios to default by clearing the cmos, but i would let the experts weight in first.

Re: uh oh - Vandamguy - 07-23-2010

like ianki said i was going to reccomend poppin out the cmos battery and putting it back in

Re: uh oh - zaneyard - 07-23-2010

otherwise do the first thing you should do when you can't get a computer to boot: unplug everything that isn't essential to power the computer and see what happens.

if post is a success with only the Mobo (keep the CPU in, unplug the ram for now) and PSU in; plug more shit in.
