Front Page Challenge - Now a discussion on challenges - Surf314 - 08-03-2010
For this challenge I want a very short story that seems to be about a normal situation that turns out to be about a video game character. Examples of these are the stories that turn out to be about the fresh prince of bel air or luke skywalker. Try to keep these well below the TL;DR threshold and the longer it takes to figure out who it is the better. I will update this if I find links to the example stories or someone tells me what this is called.
As usual the only prize is pride, front page recognition, and a community perk of your choosing if you so choose it. Also all submissions not in the form of a PM to me will be disqualified. I'm taking the bold out of that important rule so I hope some of you have learned to read the whole post.
Forgot to mention all submissions must be made by Sunday night, judging is Monday morning.

Here's my two cents on these mini contests. I think what you should do is give us a broad prompt to write blog entries about. Then extend the amount of time to two weeks or a month. You can pick the top entries (more than one) and post them on the front page and give the winners the community perk. That doesn't mean photoshop/caption contests and other artsy endeavors can't be added either. One of your prompts could be "Write a funny caption for this pic" or "Create a drawing/shoop/gmod posing/etc of X idea/concept."Â That seems to be the direction you are headed with this, but I think your writing prompts should be a bit less specific. You need topics that many people can relate to in some way. This current challenge, while interesting, is difficult and fairly narrow in scope and approach. I would also like to see the entries that didn't win posted in a sub-forum or something. I think it would give people recognition for at least trying, especially if they've put a lot of time/effort into their entry.

I'd be lying if I said the same thought didn't come to mind as I was typing that post. That being said, I think Destructoid did a pretty good job with their monthly musings thing for the most part until people stopped doing them.

i think he means kind of like the gnome adventure in hl2. except we make new ones for different games, record results, hopefully end up with lulz.

The thing I'd like to see the most is more game videos, could be any game for real or lulz. Plus maybe we could help each other out recording and editing.
