Question about CPU temps - Surf314 - 08-19-2010 I put on arctic 5 silver. It was a nice coat on the cpu but a little thin on the edges. I was using a CC to spread it and for some reason I couldn't get the sides properly. I figured it would probably spread more when I put on the heatsink so I just went ahead and mounted it. Used a grain of rice size as recommended. Currently my CPU is idling at about 38-40 C. I know that is normal but I got the V8 and somehow expected cooler. Do I need to wait for it to break in or should I worry I did it wrong? Re: Question about CPU temps - CaffeinePowered - 08-19-2010 You shouldn't have to "break it in", if you used enough paste and spread it evenly over the dye, you should not be able to see through to the dye. Almost like putting on a coat of paint just thick enough so you cant see the layer beneath it, but not so think that its gobbed on. Have you checked the fan speed settings on the cooler you got? Some fans let you adjust the speed so if its set by default to a lower speed, that might be an issue. Also how is overall airflow in the case? Are you fans not blowing against each other? You could have the best cooler in the world but if the heat stays in the case, your CPU isn't going to get much cooler. Re: Question about CPU temps - Surf314 - 08-19-2010 I'm going to try and move my case and then try again. I think that might be it. Otherwise it is on high. Re: Question about CPU temps - Surf314 - 08-19-2010 Moved the computer and it is now idling at about 34-35. I'm assuming when the paste gets broken in it will go down a few degrees. Re: Question about CPU temps - Eightball - 08-19-2010 I'm also using AS5, a V8, and an i7 processor. My proc currently idles around 40C, depending on whether or not the AC in the room is on. i7s really do run hot, I wouldn't worry too much. And how did the installation of that fan dial go? Mine was really retarded; it just sits there loosely. Re: Question about CPU temps - Versus - 08-19-2010 love how surf is worried about his proc idling at 40C and lower :'( Re: Question about CPU temps - Surf314 - 08-19-2010 (08-19-2010, 01:29 PM)Eightball link Wrote: I'm also using AS5, a V8, and an i7 processor. I didn't see the plate till much later, kept trying to figure out where it would go on the case since they are the same brand. But then I finally found it and just had to thumb screw the nut on. It actually isn't that bad but the line has no relation to the speed markings  :-\ Re: Question about CPU temps - Surf314 - 08-19-2010 (08-19-2010, 01:45 PM)Versus-pwny- link Wrote: love how surf is worried about his proc idling at 40C and lower It was about what my AMD was with the stock cooler so I thought I must be doing something wrong. Turns out I was. The V8 must really be something.
