Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - backfire - 09-04-2010 AKA: How to lose your sanity over a girl who demands 40% discounts because she's younger. Recettear is an RPG shop sim where you manage the place. You go out and buy/find inventory, then choose the prices you sell it to customers at. At later levels, customers can even sell items to you, or you can recommend them stuff. Seems simple? Boring? WRONG. What seemed like something that would be fun to play for a few minutes ended up with me replaying the demo five times. There's much more to this than you would think. Hard to explain, but lemme try. You play as Recette, a girl who's dad one day decided on a whim to go out on an adventure. Some months later, a loan-shark fairy named Tear came by demanding to take the house to repay a debt. Turns out her dad took out a loan of other worldly proportions (which number wasn't said in fear of making Recette faint). Trying to come up with other options, Tear suggested to turn the first floor into an item shop. A day later, it was open for business. Anyways, you start off selling stuff you buy at the Merchant's Guild (which apparently isn't accessible to the public) at around a 50% profit. Later on you're able to hire adventures to go out into dungeons to go collect items for you. Here the game turns into a simple realtime RPG. You go through each level, find items and weapons, then sell them for pure profit once you get back topside. Something rewarding about finding that rare long-sword, then selling it for 130% the base price. It does also take some planning; if you're low on health and the only thing you have to heal you is that Beef Bowl you found that goes for 2300pix, do you eat it, restoring your health but losing that much potential income, or do you wait and try to level up, restoring your health but risking losing everything but one item you found or brought with? I fell in love before it came out on steam, which was why I was so excited when it finally did. If you haven't already, check out the demo. It gives you a week to come up with 10,000pix for the first loan payment, and its saves can transfer over to the full game when it comes out this friday. Pictures! And there's the fact that it's mega cute. The way that days are essentially split into turns (except for the fighting bits) makes me feel this would be even better on a handheld of some sort. Hopefully Carpe Fulgur does well enough from this to let them localise more Japanese games...I know I'll be buying this at some point. Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - ZargonX - 09-04-2010 Definitely going to check this one out. Probably. Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - beep beep diglett - 09-04-2010 the demo is worth checking out, i dont care for the art style and the gameplay is p casual, but it's fun. would buy it for a handheld it was also translated and put onto steam by goons Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - Vandamguy - 09-05-2010 Front page material. Wasn't even aiming for that actually. Saw that only like 4 people actually played the demo and wanted to get some others to try this out. It's not something you'd look at and read about and go "well this sounds like a jolly-good time", it's only after you play it yourself do you realize it's actually far more fun than you thought. Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - Turtle - 09-11-2010 uh ok i played the demo and it was really fun until i started having to worry about getting the money on time but at first i was just like LOL SO I SELL STUFF RIGHT? and then it turns out everything i did stupidly at the beginning came back and i ended up just barely making the payment with the exact amount of money but then i realized all i had left was a slime so how could i sell stuff if i dont have stuff and how could i buy stuff if i dont have money but then it ended thank god it was a demo Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - shoopfox - 09-11-2010 You're supposed to stock up on items at the dungeon, especially in the early part of the game. Tear is a lying bitch and selling items at around ~130% is usually not the best idea until you build up some merchant levels (if you sell around 108-115 depending on the person you'll get a just pin bonus and hopefully unless a loli ruins your streak a big chunk of combo exp) (09-11-2010, 01:01 PM)Turtle link Wrote: uh ok i played the demo and it was really fun until i started having to worry about getting the money on time but at first i was just like LOL SO I SELL STUFF RIGHT? and then it turns out everything i did stupidly at the beginning came back and i ended up just barely making the payment with the exact amount of money but then i realized all i had left was a slime so how could i sell stuff if i dont have stuff and how could i buy stuff if i dont have money Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - Turtle - 09-11-2010 dude i was selling at 120% and only the little girl character wouldnt take my deal what a bitch i was giving her a deal NO I DONT WANT 110% BECUZ IM ON AN ERRAND THIS STORE IS STUPID Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - Turtle - 09-11-2010 wow just couldnt make my payment because a guy wasnt fucking willing to go literally 5 dollars higher than what i sold it to him for 9995 out of 10000 i hate this game Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - Squishy3 - 09-11-2010 Walk into Recettear Bitch behind counter is trying to rip off some little girl Disturbing amount of old men wandering around Whatever, don't think twice about it Walk up to counter Ask for food "Uh... here!" Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - Surf314 - 09-13-2010 I want this game but I am pretty damn broke right now. On the plus side I have cleared most of our "bad" debt. Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - backfire - 09-13-2010 Okay, clearing that final payment the first time around is just impossible. 500k, I made 100k the last day thanks to being increeedibly lucky with items in demand. Ended up passing out in a box and waking up a month earlier. :-\ Re: Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale- CAPITALISM HO! - Surf314 - 09-19-2010 This game is super fun. |
