gog.com has closed down - chronomaster - 09-19-2010 VERY SAD NEWS AHEAD. SO SAD I MIGHT POST IT IN THE SAD THREAD. http://gog.com/ Good Old Games has shut their doors. This is a sad time indeed. Re: gog.com has closed down - copulatingduck - 09-19-2010 raped Re: gog.com has closed down - CaffeinePowered - 09-19-2010 "This doesn't mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await." So...what does this mean? What are they going to change? Re: gog.com has closed down - beep beep diglett - 09-19-2010 end of beta maybe? Re: gog.com has closed down - Versus - 09-19-2010 :'( Re: gog.com has closed down - Spore - 09-19-2010 They're fine. This is just the end of the beta and a very bad publicity stunt. Fact. Re: gog.com has closed down - Chief - 09-19-2010 whats gog.com also bad publicity stunt Re: gog.com has closed down - chronomaster - 09-19-2010 Someone should read their Twitter feed before saying they're just coming out of beta. From the sound of it, they're hitting severe difficulties and are probably dead in the water. At the very least, GOG won't be coming back in its previous form and the people in it will be shuffled around to new projects. Chances are in that situation, our purchases won't follow if another similar service opens up. I bring to you this link from Polish investing site, Bankier.pl made by the CEO of CD Projekt. http://www.bankier.pl/forum/temat_re-info-od-cdp-male-podsumowanie-z-mojej-strony,8841141.html What it says in Americanese is this: Quote:Warning, date of conference itâs most likely Wednesday 22nd in the evening. Information about this soon on GOG.com (donât panic after reading information posted there. Please remember that itâs an online conference, organized for the first time Yes, that's him setting up a big conference for his investors, and telling them in advance not to worry about the message that is going to posted on their site. Also, note the amount of smilies. CD Projekt has no plans to kill off GOG. Edit: I'm starting to think that CD Projekt may partner with some larger publisher and make the service client based like Steam. That would be a bit weird though considering the site's previous stance on DRM which of course, is about not having any. Re: gog.com has closed down - at0m - 09-20-2010 D: I really hope it's a bad publicity stunt, because I really really liked the concept. It was also the easiest way to get old games to run on newer systems. Re: gog.com has closed down - Spore - 09-20-2010 They updated their website with a more straightforward message. Their investor message makes no sense any more though. Edit: PC Gamer is going to have an interview with the folks at GOG this Thursday. http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/09/20/it-may-not-be-time-to-panic-about-good-old-games/ Re: gog.com has closed down - at0m - 09-22-2010 GOG.com 2.0 explained http://www.neoseeker.com/news/14952-good-old-games-20-detailed-baldurs-gate-releasing-sept-23/ Looks like the investor stuff was true, it was all a publicity stunt for coming out of beta Re: gog.com has closed down - Spore - 09-22-2010 (09-22-2010, 01:10 PM)at0m link Wrote: GOG.com 2.0 explained It feels good to be right. Re: gog.com has closed down - chronomaster - 09-22-2010 They're still dead to me. They were right. GoG isn't coming back. Not the way we would want it. Then again, Activision and Apple are successful. |
