More AC adapter problems - Duck, Duck, Goose - 11-04-2010

So my new one arrived today, and was working fantastic all day. The tip is a little loose, but it works...

Until for some reason now the power brick shuts off whenever the laptop is powered and the battery is charging. And behold, there's no way to disable battery charging, so I have to take it out.

Big problem with a loose tip, I've lost power like 5 times in the last 3 hours and it's fucking annoying.

send it back, order another one

I can't afford to be without a laptop for another month, so that's out of the question. Plus I have something like 0 dollars left.

Solutions more like:

[Image: duct-tape.jpg] (except I don't have any...)

Re: More AC adapter problems - at0m - 11-04-2010

if all you need is duct tape i'll paypal you money or snailmail you a roll. no man should be without duct tape, or in a situation that duct tape can fix but unable to obtain any.

If the adapter dies when you try to pull too much juice, doubtful it's a fixable problem.

Guess who can't afford to ship it back to China? :-\

The thing dies whenever I try to play games too.

Also, help me find one that actually works. The tip size is not 5.5*2.5/12mm but rather 5.5*1.7/11mm (ADAPTER 120W 19V 3-PIN GREY TIP - DELTA 1.7X5.5X11 BLACK ADP120ZB BBW, FOR PB LF - NO POWER CORD, as per Gateway support).

That's the only exact match I've found, and there's no way in hell I can pay for it especially if I ship the other one back.

Re: More AC adapter problems - Duck, Duck, Goose - 11-06-2010

So I've been emailing the guy I bought it from, and he's gonna send me a converter for my tip.

Is it possible that the tip not being right is what prevents it from drawing full power?

Re: More AC adapter problems - Stein - 11-06-2010

You can do what I did.

Basically, break the tip off.  Cut off a small section of where the tip came out of.  There should be a stub of a wire in the center, and a stub of a wire along the outside.

Solder speaker wire or something to that, then solder the other ends to the tip.  Cover in electrical and duct tape.

Its still working after 3 months, although it doesn't get used a whole lot.

Quote:Hi, I just check your laptop model, maybe you need a small connector,
the right connector size is external diameter 5.5mm, internal diameter
1.7mm, but my adapter is 5.5mm & 2.5mm, so the connector can not
connect well, I can send to you a connector interface (2.5mm to
1.7mm), so you don't need send back, ok?

Sounds like he's sending it to me for free too.

Have a power plug in a laptop that sticks out farther than the power brick is long.
