Hey New People, Read This - Badgerman of DOOM - 11-08-2010 Welcome to BRBU. I'm just a resident here, but I've noticed a ton of new accounts. I'd just like to give a nice and general welcome to you guys, it's good of you to come aboard. I'm just making this post to help you guys get acquainted with this place. If this is your first stop, you're doing it better than most. However, I recommend going up a forum to Read First to get to know our rules. One thing not noted in the Rules threads, however, is that it is appreciated when you take the time to use proper grammar and punctuation. After reading the rules, THEN post an intro thread. It's suggested that you don't just post a one-liner- Tell us about yourself and your likes. We're a group of people with varied interests so chances are, if you like something, someone else here likes it too. General Discussion is for just that- generalities. If it doesn't fit in the other categories, it will probably fit here. The stickied threads are all self-explanatory. The Lulz Thread is for the things that make you laugh. The Longest Thread isn't really that, however it is almost like a chatting thread. Improved My Day is for those things that made you happy one day, and the FML Thread is the opposite. Other notable threads include the Neat Stuff Thread, which is for the cool things that don't fit in the Lulz thread, the Anime Quarantine Thread, because we aren't all weeaboos, The Music Thread, which tells us what people like/are listening to, The Movies Thread, for movie reviews, and the best thread ever, Hot Chicks (NSFW THOUGH!). You'll probably post in this forum the most often. TF2 is the board about what's pretty much BRBU's primary game- Team Fortress 2. It's an team and class-based FPS sold through Valve's Steam content delivery system (which is something pretty much every member has). We currently have 3 servers up and running for the game, and if you have it you're welcome to play. BRBU also hosts its own events on the servers- Team Fortress Tuesdays (aka TFT), our community map testing night, and Friday Night Fights (FNF), a themed night of TF2, every week. If you don't have this game, I HIGHLY suggest getting it- it's by no means a requirement, but it's great and only $20 (sometimes even lower during update sales). This forum also has a sub-board, for our competitive TF2 teams. They kinda own. Left4Dead is our board about Valve's survival-horror-action series, Left 4 Dead and its sequel, Left 4 Dead 2. Both see a decent amount of playtime from the community and are also great games. You can get them through Steam as well. Big Boys is where you go to talk about other computer games. Minecraft, Startcraft II, League of Legends, whatever. They all have their home here. Here you will also find posts about Mod Thursdays, the community mod night. Kiddy Corner is for non-computer games, including both consoles (like XBox 360) and portables (like Nintendo DS). Pokemon, Gran Turismo 5, music games, etc. You can also post your Friend Codes/Gamertags in here. Computers is for anything involving computers (duh). Ask questions, compare your specs, and talk about software. It's all done here. Gadgets is for more general technology. Headphones, camcorders, phones, hell there's even a vacuum thread. I will admit, I don't know much about the last two forums besides that they're for frontpage content. If you're wondering what our TF2 servers are/how you can chat with us, you can find us in these locations. So, I hope this little walkthrough was useful to anyone reading it. Most of the people here are friendly (except Didzo and Darkchief) and they won't bite. Much. One thing to note, however, is karma. Don't pay much attention to it. It's not a measurement of how much people like you. It is more akin to the Fallout series' Paragon and Renegade points. Except for Karth, who likes it in reverse. We're an big community, and I hope you'll become active in it! Have fun! Re: Hey New People, Read This - Luinbariel - 11-08-2010 Thanks for posting that! You should also note that kittens are amazing and they should be everywhere. Re: Hey New People, Read This - Dr. Zaius - 11-08-2010 Why did my reintro post get deleted but CountrY's LittleQuinn's abomination is still standing? EDIT: on topic, thanks ensign, it's a good thing somebody put this helpful bit of a thread together for me to derail for the newbies to become informed. Re: Hey New People, Read This - Surf314 - 11-08-2010 You should add that Karma isn't serious here, it works like paragon/renegade points. You'll get both pretty evenly if you are a nice guy who doesn't like disingenuous assertions. Or who can't control the mako worth a damn, and so runs over at least 15 monkeys.
