The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - Surf314 - 12-27-2010 They worth it? Or are they going cheap because they are as flawed as the rumors? Re: The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - HeK - 12-27-2010 Or possibly because they are REALLY OLD..... They came out almost nine years ago: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_4_Series Re: The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - Surf314 - 12-27-2010 (12-27-2010, 12:38 PM)HeK link Wrote: Or possibly because they are REALLY OLD..... I meant the 4xx series. Supposedly they had power/heat problems and nvidia is trying to rush out the 5xx series which fixes those issues (and sweep the 4xx's under the rug). Re: The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - Spore - 12-27-2010 The 460 is one of the defining cards of the last graphics card generation. Re: The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - [fr31ns]Karrde - 12-27-2010 the GTX 470 is no slouch either. Well that's what I mean, is it worth looking into picking up one on the cheap or not? [/quote] Just how "on the cheap" are we talkin' here? Re: The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - Surf314 - 12-27-2010 New Egg seems to be more often having them on their special sales. I saw a 450 for $100 the other day. I'm still a month out before I'd have any spare cash but usually there is no nvidia cards, and if there are they are not 4xx series. Lately there has been quite a few. I put that and Tom's review of the 5xx series together and figure they may be trying to unload them and replace the 4xx series with the 5xx series. I think I'll just keep waiting unless there are some good sales. The 9-series has massive power savings over the 8-series. No 3XX. Edit: Well, they did this piece of junk, but that doesn't count. http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_310_us.html Re: The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - CaffeinePowered - 12-28-2010 (12-28-2010, 06:01 PM)Spore link Wrote: Nvidia went from the 200 series to the 400 series by the way. For all intents and purposes, the 300 series doesn't exist. Re: The seem to be unloading Geforce 4 series cheap - Spore - 12-30-2010 So, while people are on the topic of upgrading videocards, it seems that the 6950 can be essentially modded into a 6970 for free. It's pretty much a completely artificial difference between the two cards. http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/159 Fun stuff. 6950's are nicely priced too. |
