i'm thinking about it. My wife needs a lappy for school because I always have the netbook. The only thing that would go into the cloud are her notes. Nothing important

The integrated 3G modem + 100mb data plan free for 2 years has me almost sold, for similar reasons. The 12.1" display gives me pause, however.

Useless for me.

Fucking EMSEC zoning...

I just wonder if they're at all like the black ones that were shipped out to lucky people a few months ago. That's where they claim to have gotten my email address from, anyways.

I was just going to say...

You didn't seem the type to have a GILT account.

Does anyone else even have a Cr-48 but me?

Just wondering.

Edit: I think you have be a Cr-48 pilot to get in on this early sale. That's what a lot of Google representatives on the Cr-48 pilot group seem to be saying.

Bah, I didn't realize you can't even view it without a GILT account. It's a Samsung 12.1" laptop running ChromeOS with a 'fullsize chrome keyboard'

You do. The invitation email explicitly says that they got my email address from the Cr-48 program, although I never got one of the actual laptops.

Weird, I got a Cr-48 though. Chrome OS is pretty sweet, but it's not $500 sweet. Seriously. All the different variations of Chromebooks are going on sale on Amazon June 15. There are some cheaper options. I would just wait. Here is the link to the Amazon page.

I'd get one if I didn't need to run certain programs for school. I'm looking to buy a new laptop that is smaller for class because mine is a beastly 17" and I feel like a dick everytime I have someone move their stuff so I can fit it on the desk.

Probably Windows programs...

Re: Chromebook on sale $500 until 6/3 - Surf314 - 06-06-2011

Since Westlaw put out a great iPad app, and evernote is on there too I could probably get away with using an iPad in class and just bringing my laptop for finals if I had a keyboard dock.
