Name origins - matter11 - 06-22-2011 What are the origins of your online handle(s)? What are your theories about other people's handles? what does TOH stand for? Re: Name origins - chronomaster - 06-22-2011 My real name is Merlin. Ok seriously, I was (still am) obsessed with the concept of time, my brother was a member of the Clock Crew, everyone calls me 'Age', my last nickname was shitty, and before that even shittier, and I always wanted to play Chrono Trigger (I didn't at the time I came up with the name). A brief history on my ho-hum name. Occasionally, I append the letter 'K' to the end because I played a bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh video games (Duelist of the Roses comes to mind) and the mirror match opponent was named 'Deck/Duel Master K'. The K obviously stands for Konami, and it fit well since I was a fan of Konami games (there was a bit of a Bemani contingent in Atlanta, to support that), even though KoA is pretty bad as far as video game companies go. Re: Name origins - at0m - 06-22-2011 I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Re: Name origins - Chief - 06-22-2011 there's a long list of nicknames my first ever was no1000, then no2000 because i didnt want to give a cool username then halo came and it was like The1Chief then i wanted to be badass and its TheDarkChief people just call me Chief nowadays though, so for newer sites ive just shortened it to TDChief Re: Name origins - chronomaster - 06-22-2011 (06-22-2011, 05:30 PM)TheDarkChief link Wrote: there's a long list of nicknamesToiletDuck + Chief? Bam Vlambo Re: Name origins - Eschatos - 06-22-2011 Eschatos is greek for "last in place or time." Its meaning is twofold. Firstly I'm mocking myself by saying that I suck. Second I'm saying that I'll be the last one standing. Contradictory? YES. Re: Name origins - Geoff - 06-22-2011 i dont even know Re: Name origins - KarthXLR - 06-22-2011 I think I drew some comic character frequently when I was in 7th or 8th grade. Name just kind of stuck. Re: Name origins - TOH - 06-22-2011 I'm a big fan of wrestling, and one of my favorite wrestlers from my earlier fandom is Kurt Angle, who has been known as "The Olympic Hero" as he was a legitimate gold medalist in the Olympics before going to the WWF/WWE. The board I was on didn't allow spaces, so I just used TheOlympicHero as my handle. That's tedious to type, though, so I just preferred using the name "TOH" for short (Pronounced "toe", though some spell it out at first. John likes to call me "taw"). So that's what I mainly go by now. Re: Name origins - If-I-Die-Its-Lag - 06-22-2011 Every time I died, it was from lag. The inside joke is on a need to know basis and you don't need to know. Re: Name origins - K2 - 06-22-2011 My initials are KK. <- super-creative dude Re: Name origins - Dr. Zaius - 06-22-2011 Huhuhuhuhu oh boy I'm glad this thread is here. ;D Dr. Zaius is a general moniker that my internet friends know me by. It stuck, it's easy to remember, and I'd say it fits well. The PhD thing is like a running joke with myself and whoever else cares. Though to be completely honest, I had never heard the name 'Dr. Zaius' until shortly before making the console to pc jump. At a friend's house, half asleep, when one of my friends pretty much out of nowhere did the "OOoooh Dr. Zaius Dr. Zaius" bit and I was like aaawww man that's awesome. Before TF2/BRBu, I'd use a (more generic) combination of adjectives and 'Fox' - which is still reflected in my steam account: 'whitemetalfox' This makes me feel sort of lame, because I'm not necessarily a furry and the go-to cliche for furries is the fox. I could also use the Metal Gear defense, and say it came from that originally. I do have a Kojima "FOX" patch on my jacket. I now step down from the soapbox. This should be titled "Name Origins [EVERYONE, GET IN HERE]" Re: Name origins - EarthlingJohn - 06-22-2011 On spore, my username was earthlingJohn ( dohohoho creative) Then, I got to tf2, kept it, but when i got to brbu, i switched it to VietJohn (derp) Didnt really roll off the tounge, so i reintroduced the -ling part of my name, so VietlingJohn Then i found that any anything kinda fit before my name, so now its (noun)John [derp] Also, TOH, some say TOHmatoe, others say TAW for TOh, to make TAWmatoe. You are Toh (T-AW) Re: Name origins - backfire - 06-22-2011 When I made the jump from consoles to PC and installed xfire (cause I thought it was useful back then) I sat at that "enter user name" thing for about a half-hour wondering about what to name myself. I originally was gunna call myself bluefire, but that was already taken. I was looking for a name that was 'humble' in a way and didn't seem too arrogant. Went with this since it reflected "plans were always blowing up in my face". Also, using verbs as nouns is fun. Got the "mies' part from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a famous German architect I heard about in a design class. I kinda wanted a 'first name' since I thought just 'backfire' was too short or something and liked the name "mies", so I stuck it in front of my name and called it a day. Re: Name origins - Luinbariel - 06-22-2011 I'm not really sure. I think some time ago I was trying to create the name for my D&D elf character. I'm pretty sure that I had the player's handbook and it had some general rules for names in elf culture and I just kind of... shoved it together using those rules. It has more or less stuck. I had it for a long time but some old LAN party friends couldn't pronounce it, so I used to be called Red Lion. But I like this one better. Re: Name origins - Evil Cheese - 06-22-2011 When I was in elementary school I used to draw a lot of shitty comics. One that I remember the most about was called the Adventures of Potato-Man (that's how I wrote it back then). Essentially it was sort of like the campy Batman or Superman comics except with a potato. My favorite villain was called (The) Evil Cheese. I think I even have a scan of one of the comics in my intro, except it featured Sour Pickle as the villain. When I started playing CS and Quake in high school I was trying to think of a name and started with Master Evil Cheese or some variant of that. Master was kind of lame so I dropped it and have used Evil Cheese in most online games/gaming communities since.
