Building AMD rig for family friend - Star Knight - 06-30-2011 His budget is $1000, but kept it low. I generally know what he's going to be playing, and he needs better input devices instead(keyboard sucks, mouse died just today.) Planning on OC'ing it a bit(never OC'd before). I think everything should be compatible, just need to double check. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17966426 In return for building it for him, he's ordering a second freezer 7 pro for me to use. feelsgoodman. Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - Eightball - 06-30-2011 Storm Scout, fantastic choice 8) I also spy the Gigabyte GTX 460, also very fine option. I do spy a wireless adapter though, I hope you've lectured this person on the advantages provided by using a wired connection! EDIT: I'd consider futureproofing that CPU a bit more; it's nice but will get outdated after a year or so. His budget is $1000 after all; $50-100 more for the CPU can go a long way. EDIT2: Just realized I don't know anything about AM3 socket procs, hope someone with more expertise comes along :v Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - Didzo - 06-30-2011 Moar RAM for only a little more money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416 Here's a better processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103894 Better hard drive for more money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 Also, drop the wireless card. He'll be using ethernet anyway. Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - Vongore - 06-30-2011 What about those APU Fusion things? I tried some when they launched them and they made wonders ona Netbook, imagine what it would do on a nicely built PC :0 Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - Star Knight - 07-01-2011 In his current position he needs the wireless card, until he can get direct ethernet(not possible at this time.) Going with Didzo's AMD BE edition suggestion. If he wants better/more RAM/HDD he can upgrade it in the future. Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - shoopfox - 07-01-2011 Is he reaaaaally adamant about having an AMD processor? That Sandy Bridge stuff is pretty cheap and niiiiice. I can finally emulate ps2 stuff at 1080 ;_; Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - Star Knight - 07-05-2011 He just ordered it. Thanks guys. ^^ Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - [fr31ns]Karrde - 07-06-2011 (07-01-2011, 06:11 AM)Señor Pinchy link Wrote: Is he reaaaaally adamant about having an AMD processor? Re: Building AMD rig for family friend - Star Knight - 07-06-2011 OT: Did talk to him about being connected via ethernet, so that's been taken care of. The wireless card is there incase he doesnt and stays on wireless. The parts will be here tomorrow, the case hasn't even left the ups shipping center in New Jersey. Yay. |
