Orion: Dino Beatdown - Coppanuva - 05-02-2012

Anybody looking at picking this up? It comes out on Friday (May 5th), it's a cooperative (5-players) survival FPS where you fight dinosaurs. They're adding some more dinosaurs as FREE DLC too.

Steam page is here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/104900/?snr=1_4_4__105

I think it looks fun, and I'm probably going to give it a shot when it comes out. Also it's $10.

Yeah, actually developers said there would be a 10% off sale on launch, and there's the typical four-pack thing (4 games, price of 3) that steam has.

One of the guys on my Libertarian/Gun Nut forum is one of the devs. So buy this game and support someone's firearm collecting habit.

Have they said how much time they spent testing it? Right now there's apparently some rather... large bugs (Still need to try to get a round in in a bit), just wondering how much testing they did of the game.

I don't know offhand. Let me know what kind of bugs you're experiencing and I'll let him know.

So I asked about it and here's what he said:

Quote:Yeah, there were issues with the distribution build getting scrambled with an earlier build somehow on the Steam servers. It's affecting server creation and player matchmaking / match joining, plus some other smaller stuff. Some people got hit harder than others (couldn't join anything at all! DSmile We've got a fix for the showstoppers coming out Monday.

I did play a small round, thought it was fun enough by myself for a bit, then I died. Fast. Then my laptop shutdown because it's overheating and I need to clean the fan.

Re: Orion: Dino Beatdown - Coppanuva - 05-05-2012

Cleaned my laptop out (man that was gross...) and played a few small rounds by myself, since the game crashed when I tried to connect. So far I think it's fun, it's a little riddled with small problems (weird jumping animation for the raptors, I've heard the flying dinosaur can go underground), but it's relatively easy to overlook since it's fun in a campy way. If you're looking for a super realistic AAA game, don't get it. But if you just wanna run around and shoot dinosaurs with a few buddies, I'd recommend it so far. Maybe wait until Monday to see how the patch they promise is going to work out, but once multiplayer is working I'm sure it'll be awesome online. Hell, being a solo hunter is fun.

Also free DLC dinosaurs and weapons and maps confirmed. Fuck yeah.

Re: Orion: Dino Beatdown - Elder - 05-05-2012

well i hear good things and with patches and future free dlc it looks pretty good

Re: Orion: Dino Beatdown - Coppanuva - 05-08-2012

Patch came out, game runs much smoother and is a lot more fun. Jetpack + Rocket Launcher = crazy fun. Every major issue has been ironed out, and Spiral seems like they care about customer's opinions of the game and will take feedback into account. Definitely glad I picked this up, enjoying it a lot more now.
