Big, bad, TAS thread - StolenToast - 06-23-2013

I enjoy tool-assisted speedruns, anyone else?

This one is one of my favorites:

release notes

Metroid Zero Mission low %, where the goal is to finish the game with as few collected items as possible, while also aiming for fastest time.  Which means the player beats the game with a capacity of only 5 missiles and no power bombs.  This requires some very well-planned resource management and some very creative boss battles (The Ridley fight is one of the best boss battles I've ever seen).

Another good one:

Release notes

Plays through Super Metroid in the exact opposite boss order.  Very interesting, as it also requires careful resource management in that you are required to collect a certain amount of resources to do it, so you need to get them as fast as possible.

I enjoy watching all the non-TAS speedrunners on Twitch. I'm actually watching Cosmo play C64 right now.

Re: Big, bad, TAS thread - cbre88x - 06-24-2013

If you like non-TAS speed runners, this website shows everyone who is currently live right now.

http://speedrunslive.com/

Also, another website, Speed Demos Archive, runs a charity marathon twice a year with Speed Runs Live where they bring in non TAS speed runners from around the globe to speed run on stream for charity 24 hours a day for about a week. Their SGDQ (Summer Games Done Quick) marathon is in benefit for Doctors Without Borders. They'll be speed running games live on Twitch 24 hours a day from July 25th-29th. Here is the website that talks all about it: http://marathon.speeddemosarchive.com/

Their main marathon AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick) was extremely awesome and they raised about $450,000 in donations to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

EDIT: They have actually posted the schedule already for SGDQ, found here: http://marathon.speeddemosarchive.com/schedule

Yea, I think they only stick with charity drives that involve medical research/relief efforts.

Re: Big, bad, TAS thread - StolenToast - 06-26-2013

I'm gonna go ahead and post this one again.  I am fine with segmented speedruns, and this is fantastic.

Get lost for a few hours watching your childhood nostalgia get better of you.

Re: Big, bad, TAS thread - StolenToast - 06-29-2013

Here are two more great ones

release notes

Cave Story with inhuman reflexes is amazing, switching between weapons so fast that every bullet you have is onscreen at once.  Causes incredible amounts of damage in short amounts of time.

Also has an author commentary in the CC of the youtube video detailing every little trick and tactic he uses in the run.  TASing: the true sport of nerds.

Just watch this one

Re: Big, bad, TAS thread - Versus - 06-30-2013

that cave story tas was really good

Re: Big, bad, TAS thread - StolenToast - 07-11-2013

Couple gimmicky ones here:

http://youtu.be/cj67TKjDARI
Very cool concept.  He wires the same controller input into 3 different games, effectively beating MegaMan X, X2, and X3 simultaneously.

This one simply because it is shockingly BORING.  It truly is amazing how much rote stairwork this game has, especially compared to the actual gameplay.
