How NOT to boost! (Funny/sad story) - BigBadBull - 04-08-2009 Here's an interesting story that I'm not sure is funny or sad, you decide: Last night a friend and I decided to do an instance. We got some people together and went to Scholomance. The group was very disorganized, everybody was running in some random direction, and we died like 3 times before we even got to the first boss. So a few people quit, and my friend asked a couple people from her guild to join us. So we bring in a pally and a level 68 priest from her guild. Now the priest! I suppose his intentions were good, but might have been just a bit overconfident. I guess he got it in his head that he was going to "Boost" us by running through killing everything for us. So we had this priest at the head of the group that was going forward aggroing EVERYTHING in sight. He wouldn't look to see if everybody had full health, and wouldn't even look to see if the group was together. He would just move forward, sometimes without us even knowing where he'd gone off (and he'd get himself killed of course). So what was the result? I've never died so many times in an instance. I lost count completely; but I know that one of us had to HS to get repaired TWICE. If we let him just go, he would get himself killed. If we followed him, we'd all die. He was in such a hurry that sometimes he wouldn't even bother to clear all the mobs in a room, he'd just kill a few and try to move on. (After which we'd get attacked from both sides: From the front by the mobs he'd aggroed, and from behind by the mobs he tried to "sneak" past!) : So I ask him, WHY are you in such a hurry? The group tells me I should be thankful, that he's just here to help us get through quickly. By dying every 10 meters??? At one point, we had died so much that we all had to HS back to get repaired. The kicker was that he wasn't even waiting for people to regroup before attacking the next batch. We'd rez someone, who would be at 200/3000 health, and then immediately we'd see the priest run off to aggro something else. Sometimes he wouldn't even wait for everybody to get rezzed. Once when I was dead, they killed the boss, and didn't even wait for me before looting it. > Sadly, the boss dropped a great warrior shield AND weapon, BOTH of which the priest needed on and then immediately disenchanted! > I'm a warrior! I needed that stuff. So the whole instance was a complete waste of time. I didn't get any loot, and I lost count of how many times I died. The moral of the story is: Yes, it's lovely that you're high level, but after you've gotten everyone killed 5 times, isn't it time you slow down on your Uber-Cool "BOOSTING"?! And when you "BOOST" someone, don't get them killed and then loot their boss, and then DESTROY the loot. Re: How NOT to boost! (Funny/sad story) - ainmosni - 04-08-2009 OMG, that's so sad. TBH I don't think boosting newer players is a good idea because they don't learn anything that way... It is sad, but not for me, for the "Booster". Me, I'll just go back and get more and better gear. But him... There's a lot of scientific research that has been done regarding how much the way people play MMO's reflects their own personality in real life. Everybody plays the game differently, and the way people play often demonstrates how they deal with situations in their own lives. For example, you have the conformists that just want to exactly what the game tells them to do. You have people that don't like quests and just want to explore and do their own thing. Then you have people that just want to break something, and go around trying to make a mess of things. And of course you have the grievers that just want to camp somewhere and "gank" people. And you have people that have bloated self-confidence and just don't want to learn... (Funny/sad story) - Sponson - 04-08-2009 Scholomance. Fuck. I did that years and years ago. But Burning Crusade ruined it all for me. Got to lvl 70 as a human warlock on executus... quit sometime july of last year. Scholomance, BRD, and Stratholme were rad. Re: How NOT to boost! (Funny/sad story) - Stiyx - 04-10-2009 If anyone wants a boost I dont mind doing one, either once Stiyx is lvl 80 or once my warrior gets his furry ass here Re: How NOT to boost! What sucks is that most of the time the only dungeon groups I can find are led by high level people, so I really don't get to have a choice in the matter. Re: How NOT to boost! Amazing amount of truth here. I made my own brother find pugs when he was leveling up to run the instance before I'd help him farm it. Re: How NOT to boost!
