Framerate drop after latest update. - KarthXLR - 08-17-2009

I'm pretty sure that when I was playing yesterday, I had at least 40 fps. But after the update today, I have MAYBE 20-25 fps. Is anyone experiencing this problem?

I got like 10 WARNING AUTO DISCONNECT things while playing today.

New drivers helped me clean up some recent problems.  I'm running 186.56 and it's much better.

That's a completely client based problem face, it means either the server couldn't connect to the internet, or you were jumping in and out of the internet.

Re: Framerate drop after latest update. - copulatingduck - 08-17-2009

framerate always dives after a big update. they also flagged a lot of the variables used in fps configs as cheats (ie you cant use your fps config anymore). dx8 was crashing earlier today, dunno if it is now or not

valve's not very good at this

Re: Framerate drop after latest update. - [fr31ns]Karrde - 08-18-2009

Erk, my FPS took a dive after the miniupdate today... :\

Re: Framerate drop after latest update. - KarthXLR - 08-18-2009

Can anybody link me to an FPS config? I don't know where to look.

After trying a variety of combinations, I have discovered that even with everything on low, my framerate has a high of 30 while moving, and a low of 12 fps during combat. The game is unplayable until I get a fix for this.

I play with 12 looking in a corner, and <7 in combat. You can play with 12 in combat.
But after the update I get <5 all the time, so I can't play any more.

I'm going to try defragging the cache and see if I can't squeeze any performance out of it.  Also, what are your specs, Karf?  I think it's time someone tried to get to the bottom of the "notorious update related falling fps (NURFFs)" ™

cpu def holding you back

also, if you're used to high framerates in general, you should try capping your framerate (a consistent framerate is usually much more playable than a high  unstable framerate)

You mean CPU.  We have an 8800GT with an AMD X2 6000+ that's never had problems with the game.  And he already knows this really, remember when he tried to overclock the thing but it's a crappy Dell so he has no bios options?

Re: Framerate drop after latest update. - [fr31ns]Karrde - 08-19-2009

Yeah, CPU's bottlenecking, but then again, this problem is useually not hardware related.  It just kinda strikes randomly.  Format?

Re: Framerate drop after latest update. - KarthXLR - 08-19-2009

Yeah, I reinstalled. Checking right now to see if it changed anything.

Ok, so my fps is better, but still is no where near what it used to be. Still not playable.

err, yea dunno why I typed gpu. There's nothing in this game that will have a graphics card break a sweat, orange box is rough on processor. Thanks for the correction

How come everything I need is super expensive?

Re: Framerate drop after latest update. - KarthXLR - 08-20-2009

I'm trying different drivers to see if that's my problem. I installed my old 186.12 driver, but TF2 won't start with that. Downloading the 186.56 right now to see if that will help.

Re: Framerate drop after latest update. - copulatingduck - 08-24-2009

download a better processor
