Valve speaks - Duck, Duck, Goose - 09-02-2009

Quote:Incoming!
September 2, 2009 - Erik Johnson

Over the next few days we'll be removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications. We're going to adopt a zero tolerance policy for external applications used to manipulate the persistent item system. Due to us not having a policy in place prior to today, this time we're only removing the items earned through cheating the system. Going forward, if we find users using external applications, we'll remove all of their items. If you're interested, only about 4.5% of the players in TF2's community will be affected by this cleansing process.

Meanwhile, everyone who took the moral high road will soon be finding a new hat in their inventory. We've also significantly increased the chance of finding any of the existing hats.

We realize there is a high level of demand for items, and we're still working on systems to allow you to find them in new ways (via Trading, and crafting duplicates into desired items). However, we need to draw the line at running external applications.

Hooray, I hope my free hat isn't shit.

Re: Valve speaks - CaffeinePowered - 09-02-2009

I think there is some other cheating non-idling method

You could always go back to _real_ idling, join achievement_idle and just wait it out, cause thats still technically legit

How exactly are they going to tell what items were gotten via idling or not?

That's probably it. They have no way of determining if past items are legit or not anyways, especially since the cheat value was just added into the game. :Smile

It's pretty much for the 8000 people that decided that they would still idle today I think. Hopefully my stopping yesterday after I got my first hat is good, because today's update implemented the values into the Steam Cloud.

Re: Valve speaks - backfire - 09-02-2009

Well, it seems all those who never idled will be getting one of these

Still pissed off though. I only started using the idler because since then classless update, I've received nothing. On top of that, day one of the update, I was tricked into deleting my kritzcreig by being told I found "a new one." I deleted that sense my backpack was full. I go to equip it later... and it's gone.

On top of that again, the idler never worked for me. It actually crashed steam after 2 minutes. So if I don't get a hat because of my failed attempt at idling... Sad

Re: Valve speaks - Kenny Strife - 09-02-2009

Not the coolest hate, but meh.  Angel spy!

Re: Valve speaks - Duck, Duck, Goose - 09-02-2009

LOL A HALO, look, you didn't idle, you're a tremendous faggot beautiful angel.

First thing I'm doing is modding this halo to show up as a tinfoil hat. :Smile

Re: Valve speaks - Honest - 09-02-2009

I kind of wanna laugh at how stupid that halo looks, but I'll refrain because if you didn't idle, good for you.  Enjoy it, you deserve it. I just love making the whiny moral people cry.

Though I kind of wish Valve gave a Dunce Cap to anyone who idled. I could have trolled so hard with that. "OH GOD YOUR WHOLE TEAM JUST GOT WRECKED I THOUGHT I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE STUPID ONE

HA

HA

HA

CRAB PARTY"

Re: Valve speaks - Radio Raheem - 09-02-2009

Re: Valve speaks - KorJax - 09-02-2009

Except for that time I idled when the program first came out and got a natasha.  Doesn't matter anyways, it's a shit gun.
